Marshall Valvestate

Re: Marshall Valvestate

the 8100 is a beast.

Prong, Death, White Zombie, Meshuggah, and Pantera on the track "Living Through Me (Hell's Wrath)"

Re: Marshall Valvestate

A VS65R was the first amp I gigged with. I replaced it with a HRD, which was definitely a step down in terms of crunch/overdrive tone.

Re: Marshall Valvestate

I have a VS100 that is my practice amp I love it. Great onboard distortion. I read a couple of years ago that Judas Preist uses Valvestates in the studio. The downside is the VS100 doesn't give me enough headroom for live stuff. I could probably use it live with an extension cab.

Marshall Valvestate

I saw a video of Judas Priest in the studio- no valve states in the studio, but they did use some type of modeling rig to get more consistent tone between studio, tour, and no tube amp breakdown.

I had a VS100 for 6 years, until I got suckered into the while "solid state sucks, tubes rule" mentality. It served me well for many years, but the clean channel was just too bright, I couldn't get dirt pedals to sound good through it

When every someone tries to tell me solid state sucks I remind them of the Roland JC120. The Randall RG100 is also a pretty cool amp.

Re: Marshall Valvestate

I had a couple of the first generation valvestate amps. I burned up a couple 100 watt heads and an 80/80 rack power amp over the course of a couple years. I replaced the power transistors a couple times before I just gave up and got new amps.

Re: Marshall Valvestate

just got my Laney GC80A back from the shop today
and it screams
its tone is way better than the Cube I got
Way better than the Viper I got
much better than the models on my GNX

hangs in with the EL84's in the Belair

Not much of a fan of Marshall's solid state endeavors

if it must be British and solid state
go Laney

I gigged with a Laney stack back in the day I loved that amp but I have much love for my Marshall Valvestate VS100.

I had that amp for a few years. One of the best Solid State amps ever. Could eat Valvestates for breakfast.
