Marshall Vintage Modern

please educate me on this amp. yes, i have played one at guitar center for about 1/2 hour, but no one seemed to know how to tweak it. can you get a really good clean with it? how does it work for metal if you put a distortion pedal in front?

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

any vintage modern owners in this forum?

Not sure. I think a lot of us have tried it though. There are a few threads if you search it here.

I tried the 50W head with 4X12 cab, and initially it sounded a little muddy, until I tweaked the detail & body knobs a bit. I got good cleans out of it too. I'm thinking of getting the combo somewhere down the road.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

that's what i tried was the combo. it sounded pretty good to me, but i wasn't sure how to tweak it. i'm not sure it's versatile enough for me to buy. i just want that signature marshall tone from a new amp, but it looks like i'm going to have to settle for the more expensive JVM.

Go back and mess with it some more. I got great Marshall tone pretty easily. I think it's worth the $$. The JVM is more, isn't it?

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

The combo is sweet, but the 100 watt half stack blows it away, I've played them both right next to each other.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

in fact, i'm going back during my lunch break today to check it out again. i always figured the head would sound better, but i need a combo to carry around. i'll give it another chance before deciding. thanks for the help

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

Between the VM and the JVM, I'd definetely spend a few more and get the 4 channel JVM.

If they made a 50watt 2x12 combo, It'd be a done deal.

i tried the jvm410 combo and loved it. what a great amp, but there are so many controls and options i think it would take a few days to really get a feel for it. maybe you're right so it might just come down to the vm vs. the jvm combo. i got some time this weekend to check them out real good.

I think thats the beauty of having a four channel amp.

Once you set it, you can forget it and still achieve 4 different sounds. There's no knob tweaking if your switching between a "metal" sound "classic rock" sound...

If I'm correct, the JVM will even let you program some settings...

yes it can, and it's really friggin cool. like if you want different reverb settings for high gain channels or different eq settings, you can just push a button and bam! it's saved. that feature is cool as hell. i have a dsl 100 and compared to the jvm410, i'm not completely sure about this yet, but it seemed like the jvm didn't get as much gain as the dsl.

it's not really a problem, but i buy marshalls for that marshall sound. i wouldn't want a marshall that i would have to use a distortion pedal with except the vintage modern which i personally think sounds better than any marshall i've tried with a distortion pedal.

if you want the 'signature' marshall tone get either a 1. splawn quickrod or 2. orange rockerverb. both are about the same price as the marshall, have much better quality and sound better.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

i checked out the splawn, but i might go with the vintage modern because i'm getting a special deal for a brand new one for $1300

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

I don't think that the Oranges sound very much like a Marshall, they are British sounding, but not a Marshall. But yeah, those Splawns rock.
