Marty Friedman's picking style

Re: Marty Friedman's picking style

Marty Friedman's hand is like that because of an injury, either while playing softball, or while playing guitar without warming up. And I think that without positioning one's wrist like that, one can get those bright harmonics and that vocal quality that make Marty's solos jump out to one's articulation by using upstrokes the way he does.

In the metalhead to head on fuse he said it was his way of not muting the strings.

Re: Marty Friedman's picking style

Reminds me of a bass pop/slap hand position adapted to pick. Makes sense about the no mute thing; I sometimes put my pinky down on the guitar to hold my hand away.

I couldn't find references for that.
