"Matched" Set

Re: "Matched" Set

yup, you don't want the problems that can be present in many other pickups, where you put in a neck pup and it's mellow, and the bridge is a screamer and the EQ gets thrown off completely. At least with a calibrated set, you know you shouldn't have to do much, if any, tweaking of EQ on the amp or the guitar to get a smooth transition from one pickup (or pickups) to the other.

And you have the 'calibrated' JB/Jazz pair, two PU's that really don't fit together.

Re: "Matched" Set

it would help if they sold certain ones together. It would cut down on people not knowing what model matches up with which.

+1. Certain ones that get paired up regularly by us forum users, like the C5/'59N, should be sold as matched sets, which helps out the less informed, and lets Duncan sell more PU's. It's a win-win. If you want to do your owning pairing, there's nothing stopping you.

Re: "Matched" Set

To me it's all a matter of taste and touch. You really don't run into matching problems unless you have a neck pu significantly hotter than the bridge. Otherwise, in most cases height and polepiece adjustments will fix just about any balance problems. If you like this one and that one separately, you can almost always make them work together.

Yeah, in my Epiphone, I have a Dimebucker and a Jazz, which don't exactly "match" with each other, but with the right height adjustments, they go together just fine. It is kind of like switching guitars without messing around with the amp's knobs.

Re: "Matched" Set

Back in the day (way back) there was no matching/calibration. It was usually just two of the same pup, on in the neck, one in the bridge.
