Hey everyone,

As the title suggests I have a Maton MS503. https://maton.com.au/product/503-classic

I'm trying to rewire the guts of her but having some trouble, would anyone be able to draw me up a schematic. This is the first time I've done anything like this so the struggle is real haha.

The MS503 has 2 volumes 1 Tone, a coil tap switch, 2 humbuckers and a 3 position rotary switch . Would really appreciate the help. Thankyou.

To make things easier I've got a diagram here I've bastardised to show case my failing attempt.

Of course it makes a difference in the wiring whether it's coil "tap" or coil "split". Are you sure it's "tap"? Most likely it is a coil "split".

Sorry for the really slow reply. Uh, I believe it's a split. I mean... I'm not certain now that you ask that lol. As you can see on Matons website they've got it in the description as a " Coil tap switch" .

Well, websites and the companies that run them are guilty of mixing up split and tap as well. Here, I'd rather use accurate terms, as it matters when discussing wiring.

Your diagram doesn't show "coil TAP", it shows coil SPLIT.

To make that switch work, either the top or bottom two lugs need to go to ground.

Re: Maton MS503 Wiring help.

The coil split switch needs to be grounded on one side, right now it doesn't do anything. *EDIT* I missed it in Guitardoc's post, he caught it too.

Is the switch a push pull pot? If so tie the 2 lugs on the bottom (farthest from the pot) to ground so it is split when the switch is pulled up. If it is a mini toggle, tie the 2 lugs opposite of the direction you want the switch to be flipped for splitting the hbs to ground (hope that makes sense).

FTR, coil split is when you take a humbucker and ground one side to make it a single coil. Coil tapping is usually used on hot single coils, it taps the signal off at different points on the coil for different tones/output levels.

So, when someone is talking about a humbucker and say "tap" or "split" it's 99% of the time referring to the same thing, I only left that 1% open there because there may be hbs with tappable coils, but I've never used one.

*EDIT EDIT* Somehow I went in to edit this yesterday and totally screwed it up, hopefully now it doesn't read like it was written by 3 monkeys with keyboards.
