Maverick guitars = hand carved necks... competing with Ibanez prestige?

Boogeyman of Tone
Well I was browsing the soundsgreat.com website (my favourite shop in Manchester guitar wise...) and I found this

Maverick launched there range with the F1 and X1 guitars, and now with the event of a new version and a factory move, we are very pleased to report that Maverick have once again taken the level of build and components up to another level that no other company matches for there very reasonable price.

So I went to the Maverick site and it would seem they are "hand crafting" these guitars... at least they are hand finishing the necks (it's hard to figure because they state "carved" and not "hand carved")

I wonder if anyones played the new ones yet?

The F-3 looks like a bit of a Jem challenger, with it being H/S/H and american alder... :burnout:

The last time I played a Maverick, it was the older F1 trem model (flourescent yellow!!!!!) and I a/b'd it against an Ibanez RG1570 with the prestige neck, and IMO it rivaled it in terms of feel, and sounded way better. I've played some of their hardtails and didn't care for them (then again they were set up with too low an action), but their trem unit seems good imo.

I love the blue one they do too.

Wtf...do the knobs spin the way I think they do?

Re: Maverick guitars = hand carved necks... competing with Ibanez prestige?

Yep... They actually work quite well.

I'm surprised nobody came up with the idea before they did tbh

Re: Maverick guitars = hand carved necks... competing with Ibanez prestige?

they're called evolution tone pots i think... on an ibanez killer? what a co-incidence :D

hey, i love competition.. they're assembled in the UK, aren't they? they just receive like neck blanks and rough-cut bodies from abroad i think... i like maverick's practices, i havnt gotten to play one yet though..

Knobs like that have been around for quite awhile. I played some guitars at least 10 years ago that were like that. I didn't really know what to think of them at the time, and still don't really.

Damn those are cool. Can we get those in the states?

The guitars are very cool looking, but have had lackluster reviews in the Britty guitar press ...

Much better UK guitars, and 100% custom made, are Gajic Custom guitars ... http://www.gajicguitars.com/

Aye, Gajic is the goal (one day :laugh2: ). For what they are, I think his prices are pretty good!

Mavericks have skinny necks like Ibanez wizards... So not the kinda thing I gravitate towards feel wise. This thread was just to see if anyone thought they were a decent challenge to Ibanez in the skinny necked-floyded mid price bracket :)

I still think (stock) it sounded better than the Ibanez, even if the reviews didn't like them... It sounded more "metal" which is what that kinda guitar is designed for after all. Didn't have as much character as a guitar with Duncans or whatever in it, but it wasn't bad for stock in the price range...

It's kinda unfair to compare a £500 Maverick to a £900 odd Gajic anyway ;)

Fair enough, but my thinking is that, if you're going to get lumped with the exchange rate, anyway ...

i can't stand those skinny necks...they might as well give you a fretboard for a neck....

I've just read the latest Total Guitar here, and they review the latest F-1 Locking Trem H-H, and give it 5 stars!

Re: Maverick guitars = hand carved necks... competing with Ibanez prestige?

i've never seen a bad review in the UK press of any maverick product.. i've seen half a dozen reviews, all are very very very good!

Re: Maverick guitars = hand carved necks... competing with Ibanez prestige?

Yeah, the UK guitar press absolutely love these guitars, all the guitarist/total guitar reveiws have been excellent.

My local shop is a dealer, I really like the maverick stuff, they just look too metal for me. The necks were modern, but not silly thin like the Wizard II, the stock pickups are absolutley wicked, I don't think they would need changing.

I was most impressed, but as I say, they look too metal for me.

Re: Maverick guitars = hand carved necks... competing with Ibanez prestige?

ive played them and thought they were very nice, but they are not my kind of guitar. I like guitars with some chunk to the neck:) Still, i thought they were better than some RGs ive played. They quite pretty too
