Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

I put this up on the jemsite forum a few months back and got little response. So i thought i would try this forum. Anyone who likes guitars surely will appreciate this creation.

I really like how they have placed the 7 string humbucker on a angle to the 6 strings. I plan on doing this to one of my future custom builds. I believe the reasoning behind it maybe to prevent string drop outs when bending? Or maybe to create more variation in the tone of the bridge pickup?

Ok here it is. Set your face to stun.

Looks really nice, but I´ve always questioned the point of extending the fretboard while leaving the heel in the same place (and have pointed this out to Mayones in the past as I too was once interested in this line, they told me it´s for stability reasons. My professional opinion of that statement is irrelevant here, but not positive. But I really don`t want to detract from what is otherwise an excellent company).

To me, 12 extra frets are really only worth 6 if you can only tap on them effectively. But that´s me, you`re the one that has to play it, and if you can reach, then all the more power to ya :beerchug:

When scientists figure out how to make my fingers like toothpicks, then I will be interested in guitars such as this.

Yeah i dont like that either plus imo a neck through would be way better considering stability. I have never actually played a 37 fret guitar. And in most cases there to expensive. So i am building my own.I have only just started. View attachment 38616

TBH I' m still trying to figure out why one would use a 7 string humbucker in this application, because the angling was originally an ´80s "pre-trembucker" trick to lessen dropouts, and a 6 string PU should work just fine... I can understand anglichg it for tonal reasons, which Is what I´m expecting the reasoning to be, but I still can`t wrap my head around why they used a 7 in there.

I`m thinking it`s either a really good reason that I wish I had thought of myself, or it`s something more cosmetic than functional... I´m currently tending towards the latter...

LOL!! yeah, exactly! There were some extended boards in the past that I thought the same.. If you have to extend for stability, why put frets on? besides as Zerb says, I feel as long as its securely bolted at the heel, shouldnt need to be longer.. Whats that guitar that was out in the late 80s, early 90s that was cut out all the way around the end of the board?? I always figured that thing would be thin sounding or fragile, but it worked fine..

Nice looking axe tho! Black flame or quilt always gets me tho

Guess the biggest cons of a 37fret is the lack of neck tone. That's why uli roth has pickups under the fretboard on his sky guitar. So in saying that could this placement give you a warmer neck like tone? Or am i talking ****?

Either way it looks awesome and unique.

7 string pup on there. overkill? Im sure a trem spaced pup would do the trick

Not really, the tone will be a bit warmer on the bass strings and a bit brighter on the high strings.

I`m thinking it`s cosmetic because the PU follows the fretboard angle exactly and the rout "ears" are at just about the same distance from the centerline that they would be on a normal 6 string PU, which also follows more or less the same imaginary line that extends froy the outside eges of the Floyd baseplate.

My guess is that someone at Mayones simply felt it looked better that way compared to angling a 6 string, which would make the rout moe narrow and disturb the flow of the guitars lines more.

...is anybody seriously playing a 2-octave neck and thinking "if only this were a higher pitch!"?

I try to avoid going above the 12th fret cuz it hurts my ears. 36?

I didn`t want to say it because It may have come off as ragging on the axe which was not my intent, but I agree 100% :beerchug:

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

Ugh, angled humbucker. I never like the tone of that, too mushy on the low strings.

Re: Mayones Setius Xtreme 36 Dive Bomb Flame Maple Custom Shop Edition

3 octaves, I still want one. i can see how it could be fun to play around on.
