Heel Whacker
so for the past several weeks, i've been trying to get use to the PRS McC BLE i got from Scott_F .. i love the looks and love the tone, but the feel has been a bit of a struggle ... the neck heel is pretty thick and makes soloing in the upper register pretty difficult for me ... playing in A minor has been really hard and B minor is essentially impossible ...
so i remembered that Ed Roman's site talked about corrections for the 'heel from hell' and figured i'd look into it ... i figured that, if nothing else, i could pick his brain and maybe have a local luthier give an opinion too ...
so i called and talked to the man himself ... i had to stifle a laugh 'cus he is exactly like the stereotype caricature i'd imagine ... pushy, abrasive, condescending, slick, etc .... i have a pretty good BS detector, so i let the 'exterior' roll off me and just focused on the content of our talk ... and ya know, everything he said made sense ... i probed his claims up and down, asked alot of 'what if' questions ... i cut him off a few times when he got on a tangent trying to sell me one of his guitars ... and then got down to brass tacks when it came to price and schedule ... he chuckled and said "you from the east coast, or what? ... no one usually talks like this to me .. i like you ... no Bull$h1t ... "
so, long story short - my PRS is in the fedex today and will be getting the romanized neck carve mod to eliminate the heel from hell
