Me and my '54 Telecaster

Re: Me and my '54 Telecaster

Nice! One of the last blackguards, right there. Why don't you have it any more?

Jeff Beck's Esquire was originally a whiteguard, but he loved the black guard look, so he installed an earlier guard on the guitar.

I do still have it. :) That's a recent photo from a gig at Ziggies in Denver last month. Still have my '63 Strat too. I'll post a shot of it someday.

I did sell most of my other guitars and amps a few years ago to pay medical bills and to survive while I was unable to work for a couple of years. But I'm feeling really good these days. Knock on wood! :)

Ah. I though what I thought because you said that you "had it forever." Glad you still have it. Don't let it go! I am glad you have recovered well.

Man, I really wish I can end up with gear that nice down the line. Someday.

How long have you had that Tele and Strat for? Nicest slab of wood I've ever played was a gigged to hell '55 Tele with a huge neck. Owner bought it in the 80s and recently traded it away for an ES-335 and some Custom Shop Fenders. It was a decent enough trade, but that thing felt like it had been played so much you could get all kinds of diseases from touching it. In a good way :)

The neck on my '54 is like a big soft V. Played a '56 once that felt similar.

My '51 had a more normal feeling round neck. Not huge and not a V or D shape. That guitar had a bad neck and we never could get the twist out of it.

I've had my '63 Strat since 1974. Got it back when I was still in Detroit. Seymour himself has worked on that guitar. It's all original and has been played a lot and looks like it's about 1/2 way to the super worn look and condition of SRV's, which was not a 1959 but also a 1963, or so I've read.

I bought my '54 Tele after I moved to Colorado, I guess about 25 years ago.

Here's my '63 Strat with my '51 Super. I'll see if I have better shot of it somewhere.

Classic Tele, classic Strat, classic amp, all you need now is a 335 and you'll be set. :)

I do! It's my favorite guitar.

This is me and my 335 performing a medley I arranged of Freddie King's "Hideaway" and "The Stumble". We did this at the International Blues Challenge and the sponsor posted this video of us on Youtube, but they got the title of the tunes wrong.

I was pulling your leg about the 335 Lew, I remember it well.
Great playing on the Freddie King cover!
