Hehe I might have to do that; but honestly, there's no point until I get a Mac.
A MAC?? jezzus christ just use sound recorder im pretty sure thats the secret to sounding like OTEP. (specially yelling way too loud into it, the emo kids love it apparently  )

Re: Melodic Rock/Metal, New Tune!

Mac's = the ****! After I get a 7 string and maybe a cabinet, I'm going to start shoving money in the bank for when Mac's are released with Intels, and start micing up my 5150.

Why not get Shure 52, soundproof the walls, get a Mackie mixing board, electronic drum machine and while your at it...

an entire ****ing recording studio with an attached missle silo to weed out the competition. jeez talk about expensive taste :D

oh and invite me over so check out all your equipment(im a sucker for sh*t i can never afford *sigh*)

Re: Melodic Rock/Metal, New Tune!

okay, seriously i think the solution for the best quality would be to run a Shure 52 mic to a mic pre-amp/digital converter then connect that to the audio out on the computer. most devices like that that im aware of are pricy but thats how we do it at the studio. you may be able to connect a good mic to the computer mic slot through signal converters but i have no idea how well that is quality wise

Shure 52? You mean a 58. I could run that into a cheap preamp and then into my soundcard, yes. But, If I was going to do that, I'd want to go all out and track my real amp, too, in which case a laptop is required because I can't crank up my amp in the house. Also, in that case, I'd get a 57 and use it for both vocals and guitars; they're the same mic with a different casing.

yeah 57 or 58 you may need a mixing board to combine both the amp and voice. Especially if you want to make sure the vocals aren't lost in the background. So i guess you could hook up the head to one channel on the mixing board and the voice mic to another channel and send the output of the mixing board to the computer. if you try to track both do it with a mic far away from the amp so that your voice is not lost in the background. i would suggest that you not pre-amp the mic when picking up the amp. The Shure mics ive worked with are quite sensitive so you might want to be carful of the volume levels you are recording at but i mainly work with mics designed to only pick up voice so the models your thinking of may be fine

Sorry to be a ****, but I know what I'm doing here man. Also, no metal band ever records everything at once; It's all tracked out one at a time. Plus, there's no such thing as "lost in the backround," that's what MIXING is for.

Jeff Have you 18volted your emgs yet?

BTW Awesome riff.......Im awaiting Deaths Acres vocals now.

Re: Melodic Rock/Metal, New Tune!

I haven't 18volted them; I don't see a need to at all. They sound perfect as is.

I did it in an old Dinky of mine, with the 85 in the bridge, and to be honest, didn't notice THAT much of a difference. Also, in the clips I heard of it, I actually prefered the 9v. I don't have the complaint about them being sterile like most people do, though.

Plus, I use the the 85 in the bridge, so it kicks the **** out of the 81 :laugh2:

????????

If he didn't use a mic pre how would be get any level into the DAW? You have to have a pre whether to attenuate or amplify the signal. Are you sure your talking about a 57 and not some condenser mic? 57's are dynamic so they aren't overly sensitive at all. I've blown extremely loud levels into a 57 and it works just fine. I wouldn't stick it in a kick drum but I've miced everything else with one from snares, to toms, to guitars.

Tux - Do everyone a favor and NEVER set foot in a studio. You have no idea what you're talking about. ;)

Just giving you a hard time, but seriously, it's bad to give advice when you know nothing about the subject at hand.

I never volunteer information unless I know I have a good idea of what I'm talking about. Both Vinterland and I have spent countless hours behind a studio console and that's where our point of views come from.

I'm not being mean, just giving you a hard time. Sometimes I come across as a hardass because I'm such a direct person.
