MESA/BOOGIE DUAL CALIBER DC-10, anybody know about it?

There is a MESA/BOOGIE DUAL CALIBER DC-10 head for sale at the guitar shop in town.

I played on it, and I really like it, only bad thing is it doesn't have the footswitch...

Anyway, Mic Thompson of Slipknot either used to or still uses this head, and I know for a fact it's got great tone for what I'm looking to do.
^(it was actually Jim Root)

It's for sale at $600, does that sound reasonable?

Also, anybody have any info to add about it, like... Go for it!, or no way, don't buy that...

Rock On!

I used to play a DC-3 combo a lot, and loved it. I've honestly NEVER played a Mesa product that I didn't enjoy. If you like it, that seems like a good deal.

BTW, Jim used the DC-10 :)

thank you for the correction, I knew that, and just wasn't thinking when I typed, I like Jim more anyway... :13:

So I think I'm gonna go for it.. get rid of the Fender, order a 2X12" cab... make some SIC music... sounds like a good time :headbang:

Are you gonna run that 15" with it, too? That would be brutal!

Those are nice sounding amps. Enjoy it (if you do end up springing for it)! :)

The plan is to pick up a 2X12" cab for it, but if I get the amp right now, I will be running the 15" with it because I can't afford any new cabnets right at the moment.
and Brutal sounds like a very good thing :headbang:

This amp is a nice work horse. I hae used the DC-3, DC-5, and DC-10 at different times, either as a stand alone amp or in combination with other amps (Line out).

Heavy little buggers these beast are.... But like all Mesa-Boogies theyt can really rock.

Pay no more than 500 for it.

If I can't get a good deal on a trade for my HRD then I'm gonna tell 'em I'm not interested.

Are you bound to the sound of the DC-10? I have a DC-5 head with a Mesa 4x12 cab (Celestion Vintage 30s). PLENTY of output for my needs. I've got the footswitch as well.

Are you offering to sell me somethin?

No, I'm not bound to the DC-10, but it's an improvement over what I've got... I will be needing a footswitch if I get it...

I have a DC-3 1x12 combo. Great little amp, but heavy (weight, not tone)! The high gain is more like the Mark series than the Rectifier, but I actually prefer that. It can pump out a big fat chunky sound with no help, and as soon as you throw in a Tube Screamer you're in Santana-land. What really sold me on this amp though is the clean channel. It holds its own against any Fender.

Very kool, I am also a fan of the gain of the Mark series amps, and I'm loving the gain ont eh DC-10, also the switch for 60 or 100 watts is nice.

I think the DC-3 is a little mellower due to the EL-84s. The DC-5 and DC-10 have 6L6s and sound a lot more like the Recitfier. In fact, I think my DC-5 kicks the Recto's ass for ultra gain...

Let me just add to this thread, as I have in others before, that the Mesa DC amps are super kick ass amps. I've loved mine for 10 years and have played almost anything I can think of through it (well, no slack key, but...)...The DC-10 is a lot of power, so you may be happier with a DC-5, but it is a great amp.

Good luck
