Mesa Boogie Owners!

So, I played through Mesa DC-5 combo at rehearsal, and it sounded pretty good. I was surprised that all the notes in distortion mode were very articulate. And whether it was clean or distorted, the sound just cut through the mix.

Are all mesa like this?
What are other mesa amps that sound like DC-5?

And to answer your question, the DC series is sort of a stripped down, budget version of the Mark series.

I've never met a Mesa amp I couldn't get clarity and cut out of.

I have met many players that couldn't dial in a Mesa amp though.

The level of definition of the notes also depends on how much gain you're using. A fully cranked gain knob on a DC-5 will have more definition than that of a Dual Recto IMO. If you like the DC-5, check out Mark IIs and III's as well as other simlar Mesa Boogies. I think the F series and Nomad series are also more along the lines of the DC series, not exactly like them but more of that type of family from the Mesa Boogie line.

I love my Mark III Simul Class combo to death but it only sounds good when she's cranked. With the volume low, the distortion is fuzzy and buzzy like a Squire amp. The clean channel sounds great at any volume also. From Petrucci to SRV to Pearl Jam, it's all in this Mark III. P.S., the graphic EQ is a must for my Mark III, with out it on, the lead channel sounds flubby, flimsy and mushy.
