Mesa Flux 5 question for anyone who has one.

How well does it play with an amp that's already breaking up a bit? And does it stack well with other types of pedals? I've been thinking about adding one to my rig to get a slightly beefier rhythm tone out of my current rig. I recently had my first show with my new band and after listening to some (albeit low quality) videos, I realized I need to do something to bring my guitar up in the mix a bit. (We were playing unmiced, so a place anyplace we can mic will help out with that)

The other guitar player plays a Les Paul into a Mesa Mark 3, and I play a tele into a Fender Deluxe based amp. My solos were fine with my EHX Crayon as a lead boost, but my rhythm playing faded in and out. I've worked on the EQ of my amp a bit to accentuate my mids and highs, upped the output on my comp pedal and on my Archer (always on). I also plan on replacing the stock MIM Standard pickups in my tele with the new TV Jones tele set.

What I'm hoping to use the Flux 5 for is highly tweakable pedal that I can turn on for certain songs in the rhythm parts to avoid getting buried by the Paul/Mesa combo. I know that the EQ tweaks will help more than anything else. So this is also just a flimsy excuse to buy a new toy that I've had my eye on for a while but couldn't justify the need for in my old classic country band.

Well, this might be put on hold for a bit as I just got my KoT letter, so my extra gear money is going there this month.

Still curious about how well it does with an amp that's already breaking up though.

It sounds great through a clean amp or pushing an already broken up amp. What I like so much about the pedal is that you can change the voicing so drastically with the EQ selection. When you go to the 5 band, the tone thins out a bit, but gets clearer. When you bypass that, you still have a set of tone controls, but it acts like the original Flux Drive and it's surprisingly smooth, fat and rich.

I actually use mine a lot (strangely enough) as a Dumble-ish kinda of sound. I like to set the crunch channel to just barely clip (it blooms really nicely) and then kick in the lead channel when I take a solo break. I have stacked it with my Cornish CC-1, but most of the time I don't bother because the transition from crunch to lead is nice enough just coming from the Flux Five itself.

The KOT was a cool pedal, but I really only jived with the low gain side and it didn't have quite the punch, the clarity or the flexibility of the Flux Five so I didn't hold onto it. Still, it was a better pedal than a lot of others.

I've played the Flux Drive through my current amp and it sounded great, so I'm sure the Flux 5 would be even better. I'll end up getting one eventually, possibly before the end of the year.

I have one and a Mesa Boogie Exoress, they sound very similar. I use the pedal through a Fender Twin and it sounds amazing.
