Mesa Mark IIC+?

Was it this mysterious amp that was responsible for the crunch tones on the AJFA Metallica album? And where can I get one? What's the deal with them? Is it even a Mark IIC+ or whatever? HELP lol :yell:

Re: Mesa Mark IIC+?

The AJFA album was recorded with that wired as a preamp into a 100 watt Marshall EL34 poweramp, with a direct box of somesort, straight to the board. No mic'ed cabs. On that album, Kirk also used an ADA MP-1 preamp and tube screamer for leads, with a Mesa 6L6 poweramp. The Mark IIC+ heads run a bloody fortune, but the Mark III nails AJFA, and can be had at around 650 USD.

for more analysis of mark2c+ tones, check out john petrucci of dream theater

Re: Mesa Mark IIC+?

Here is a great link that will tell you all you ever wanted to know about the MK series. I picked up a MKIIC+ simul-class for $900 on e-bay a couple years ago. It was not in a hardwood case (it is now) as that will add about a grand to the price. It is a great sounding amp, far better than my old MK III and much more versitile than my old MKI re-issue.

Here is a clip I posted a couple weeks ago of mine.

I've searched on Ebay and can't seem to find a MKIIC+. Can I get Mesa to make one?

I seriously doubt it. Keep your eyes open they do show up on e-bay from time to time. There were 3 for sale when I bought mine. Amazing when you think there were only 1500 made.

MK IV's ain't to shabby either!
can a MK4 do the stuff a MK2C+ can do? Or is it completely different? I'm talking about the "glassy cleans" and amazing overdrive. I heard that the drive on the MK2C+ was the best ever in a Mesa.

Re: Mesa Mark IIC+?

I've never played a MK2C+. I own a Mk IV and it's a great amp!.

Channel 1 has very versitile cleans. I like them better than fender.
Channel 2 great break-up
channel 3 Gain!!!

each channel can be tweaked a gazzilion ways.

Go to my website & click on clips to hear a small sample of what the MKIV can do.
All channel 2 if I remember correctly. The gtr solo was channel 2 pushed like a b1tch.

Re: Mesa Mark IIC+?

The Mark IIC+'s are rediculously expensive now. I have a Mark IV as well, and I'm very happy with it.

Re: Mesa Mark IIC+?

I recall in my Boogie handbook...

Mark II-C(+) - Legendary sounds from "dual cascading" lead stage and so sought-after today that they command THREE times their origional cost.

Mark IV - Voted Amp of the Year three times in Europe and still one of our most popular models, includes fableed II-C Lead sound.

In other words, can't find the II-C+, I don't think you'd go wrong picking up a IV. They're great amps.
