MESA problems only channle 3 drops out

Can any of you guys help me out here?? I am really getting tired of this problem. I have a Mesa Boogie NOMAD 100 2x12 combo, that sounds fantastic. THe only problem is that channle 3 keeps dropping out. The other channles work fine, but #3 gets really quiet. You can hear it very faintly. I have replaced all the preamp tubes, and even switched the power amp tubes to EL34s (from the stock 6L6's). I have taken this into the dealer I bought it from and it will work for a while but it always comes back. He seems to think it's still a preamp problem, but I have swapped them out one at a time and the problem is only on that one channle. Any advice??? I have too many gigs in the future to have to have this thing shipped to mesa to have it looked at.

Thanks,
RYAN

Before one of the techs chimes in - call Mesa tomorrow when they're open and ask them what they think is up, and then ask them for the number of the closest authorized repair man. Chances are, the thing is still under warantee - they have a 5 year transferable.

ya its got a 5 year warrenty, but its the mesa certified tech (an hour drive from me) that I have taken it to. I have probably had it looked at 4 or 5 times in the last 15 months...

I had that exact same amp that you have and experienced the same problem. I'm assuming its one of the first run of their nomad series like mine. I thankfully only live 2 1/2 hours from Mesa's HQ and had to take it to them. Only then did they fix the problem and I recomend you call them and talk to them like Jeff said. They might be able to tell you the exact problem and you can just relay the info to the repair dude. They've got awesome customer service though. Gave me a set of free tubes and a t-shirt for my troubles. They're good people and I'm proud to play their amps.

Thanks 3's, that is kinda reassuring. I will give them a call first thing tomorrow.

most likely a coupling cap has broken its lead on the PCB. does smacking the side of the amp help?

Re: MESA problems only channle 3 drops out

not really, its kinda at random. I have not really tried smacking it. I have gone through entire gigs with it working fine, but the last few it has acted up with in the first hour or sooner. When I first noticed it, it sounded like the lead channle was compressing a little bit. Just a small drop in volume, bairly noticeable. Now it is dropping almost entirely out. I really don't push my amp all that hard. The master volume is rarely over 9 or 10 O'clock.

Re: MESA problems only channle 3 drops out

If there is a preamp tube that's just for that channel, I'd check that. My Bogner got more compressed and started acting intermittently just before the tube for it died (that's when you really hear the volume cut out).

Still, I'd ask a professional Mesa repairman about your issue to make sure it isn't something more severe.

wow, good service? My bandmate's triple rec and roadking both crap out (thats waht you get for buying an oven) and mesa basically told him to piss off, didnt help, no offers, and no free stuff. We no longer use mesa and have switched to companies that care, i use Genz Benz and he now uses Diezel.
