Mesa Roadster's "Brit" sound

Hey guys,

For those of you who have tried the Mesa Roadster, did you think its "Brit" (British) setting sounded anything like a Marshall?

When I tried it, I don't think it sounded anything like a Marshall, but this was in the store, and I didn't spend much time tweaking the knobs. I wasn't that concerned with it sounding like a Marshall, cuz I figured I've already got one. I was more intersted in hearing the "modern" tones...

Now that I think about it, I may have to trade in my Marshall for the Mesa but don't wanna give up that Marshall tone either. Can the Roadster do both or at least sound somewhat like a marshall to justify me trading it in?

A shop guy I know made me plug into the brit channel of a Roadster a few months ago to see what I thought.

I'd agree, it wasn't dead-on marshall, certainly nothing as close as a stiletto can dish out. But it was a very appealing tone with a marshall-esque flavour. I think it'd sound great as long as you don't try and use it as a sound to punch through a two guitar mix where the other guy's amp is a real Marshall.

Yeah, it is somewhat Marshall flavored...I think I remember someone on another forum calling it the "Stiletto Lite" channel. Its a cool tone regardless and it makes great Strat channel.

I used to think the Brit channel with EL34's was Marshally on the Road King... until I got the Splawn. Then I realized it's much more a different flavor of Mesa than it is a Marshall clone. If you want Marshall, that's what you need. If you need a little variety in tone, the Roadster will do that.
