Mesa Single Rectifier 50 head - opinions?

Re: Mesa Single Rectifier 50 head - opinions?

yeah - personally, I would lean towards a Dual Rec if I was playing really heavy stuff in drop tunings all the time. I prefer the earlier 2-channel DRs but I think that the current/recent 3 channel models can still sound good.

Single Rectifier
- 50 watts (2 6L6)
- 2 channels
- diode (solid state) rectifier

Rect-o-verb:
- same as above, but with reverb

Dual Rectifier
- 100 watts (4 6L6)
- three channels
- selectable diode or tube (2 5U4) rectifiers

Triple Rectifier
- 150 watts (6 6L6)
- three channels
- selectable diode or tube (3 5U4) rectifiers

They are all voiced very similarly (especially the dual and triple), but they are by no means clones of each other with different power ratings.

All Rectifier amps can run either 6L6 or EL34 power tubes. There's a bias switch on the back.

Thanx for the much needed info guys !

Re: Mesa Single Rectifier 50 head - opinions?

thanks glassman!! i appreciate it, especially since i wasn't running my normal tone that night (i lost the 18volt power adaptor to my mxr 10 band, and i usually run on the vintage setting with some midrange tweakage. that night though, i used the modern mode because i find the vintage almost too unuseable without the 10 band.)

only thing i have to add to this post is that the prescence knobs are DIFFERENT on a 3 channel Dual. SO raw, vintage, and modern can sound different between the channels. on a Single, it says that vintage mode is "here in its original form."

what i like about mine, is that cut. and the 50 watts advertised is stupid loud. the other guitarists amp is a JSX 120 watt head. i can run with him all day long.

i think 850 is a good deal. if it sounds good now, it'll probably continue to sound good for a few more months at least, and hopefully longer. if its needs a retube, you also lucked out because a Single only has 6 tubes!!
