Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

Honestly, I think it will sound a lot like the Express 5:25. They are both twin channels, with EL-84s, switchable at either 5watts, 25 watts, and this new one has 15w from what I can see. If you were to take off the reverb and the contour feature of the express (which is the greatest application for live playing EVER), you basically get this new amp.

I understand where it stands in the lineup though : as a budget amp to make it accessible to the masses. I just think in terms of features, it's a bit redundant. Impossible to say until I play one though.

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

I get frustrated when I try them in stores,

i hear that - very true

i learned a trick was to d/l the manual before i go try em out and start with the sample settings - minor tweaks from there get ya pretty darn close

i had to teach a sales guy at GC that trick after he told me he never saw a guy get good tone out of a mesa so fast

t4d

ps - i am not too proud to admit that the weight relief is its big promise for me ... i'd miss the reverb though

Well have played about every Boogie since the late 80's till now....
The worst being the rectrumfriers, close second is the Stilettos......
About as sad an experince as Riveras:D
I know the lot of you love all that sh!t.....but I don't....hehe
;)

It may shock you to discover

I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU BUDDY

This sums up what I hate about Mesa amps

Hahahahaha, that's the part i love !

What i do not like it the asking/street price.
At 25Watts, it is deff not gonna be in the Tiny Terror/Night Train price bracket, not even close :(

This amp will be very close to 1K, if not more.
Probably more than the 30W Dual Terror too.

Haha ok:D
Well I dislike Riveras.....
But I never ever liked any Boogie amp....you twiddle and turn and twiddle and turn, pull out, flick switches...and it keeps giving my ears grief nomatter what!
Not my kinds of amps.......just don't like them.

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

I sh!t you not, that has always been the name I had come up with if I ever were to design an amplifier. You can already guess that it had a feature very similar to Bruce Egnater's Rebels lol.

BTW, this DOES look a lot like an Express 5:25 head. And we're talking a $200-ish difference, and like someone said, the Express has reverb and other goodies.

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

^think its treble cut for the boost circuit (like vox's?)

You could be right. From the way they wrote it, it sounds like it cuts the master from the circuit.

$899 street is not bad for a USA made tube amp. Where is the Nightrain and Tiny or Dual Terror built? Are they all in the UK or are they built in Asia somewhere?

Yeah man, looking more into it, I am more confused! The express has a 3 button footswitch, reverb, contour, a better finished box, effects loop, different ohm outs, with almost the same features, for the price of a good reverb pedal as the difference.

I can say that I thought some of their models to come out in the last year fit right in, I don't get this one.

The Mesa F-Series or Nomad may be your Holy Grail...

Yeah I was just looking a little a closer as well thinking exactly the same thing, For $150 more you get a lot mor amp w/ a Short-Cassis 5:25!

I got a little excited because I thought the price difference would be more....

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

good tip on reading the manuals.. Its VERY hard for me to get hold of a mesa to try and the time I did, I was sadly disappointed. I expected to have an Eargasm, but was left with blue drum...

but Im sure I didnt twiddle with the right diddles and all..

Is the twin terror tasty?? Ive played the rebel, ht5, vox, jet city.. But not a Tiny terror or the krank.

speaking of... krank is supposed to be coming out with another lil one...
why do people not talk about the krank rev jr?

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

Glad my amp jonesing is done for. I dont care if it's better than the night train or not... I love what I've got now and I am stickin with it ^_^

I've never played a mesa... I figure I haven't needed to as the revered ones are out of my price range by a few hundred.

This amp reminds me of egnater's rebel idea taken a step further. I didn't dig the rebel, too much tweaking to find a perfect sound, and I only liked the el84 side or the 6v6 side separately, not mixed.

Anyways after owning a blackheart and now the vox I'm pretty sure I like simple amps. I bet for some the TA will be perfect. I'd rather have a DRRI.

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

It sounds like my dream amp but we'll c what it sounds like. Vox cleans (the Top Boost channel), With the choice of tweed, marshall or mesa style crunch......

Re: Mesa's Answer to TinyTerror & Night Train....

interested to see what it'll be priced at here, compared to the tiny and dual terrors and the night train

so i can bag it, of course. i don't actually want one.

Budget and Mesa don´t really belong in the same sentence, this is certainly not a 250$ BuggerA head ;)
