Metal guys, what is your current setup?

For anyone that would classify what they play as "metal", I'll accept anything from Black Sabbath through Maiden, Metallica, Motley Crue, through to modern metal, etc. what is your current setup to get your tone? Not only amp, but any pedals that are instrumental to your tone. Heck, through your main guitar in there too...

Ex:
Gibson Explorer -> TS -> Marshall 2203 (Glam metal)
Schecter C-1 -> Dual Rectifier (Direct) (Post-Metal)
Strat with Hot Rails -> Metal Muff -> Blues Jr. (Power Metal)

There are so many interesting ways to get what is still described as a "metal" tone, what's your approach?

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

ok I go mine....'75 Gibby Paul Custom(T-Top/Crazy8)>>Boss GE-7(solo boost.or more grit)>>Crate BV-120HR&v30 Loaded 4x12) 8/2/8..B/M/T..gain about 6-7.

I'll also Run my Warmoth Tele(T-Top/Super Disto) or my Atilla Balough Luthier(DD) into the same rig with Minor tweaks.., adjust the Presence a bit and I can go From L.O.G. to Bodom, to some Ozzy/maiden no prob

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

99% of my tone is my fuzzy schecter with an EMG 85 into a 5150 with a Marshall 1960A cab with Hellatone 60's. Any other stuff I use is just random, like chorus and delay from a zoom gfx1 which i rarely use or a modded Crybaby wah.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

(Jacksons/Charvels/Parkers/Peaveys - all with various Duncans) -> Bad Horsie 2 Wah -> StroboStomp Tuner -> RoadKing 2 with a G-Major in the loop (all controlled by an Amp Gizmo and Rocktron MidiMate.

Fairly simple setup, lots of sounds.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

My main tone is pretty simple really. Right now my main setup is:

PRS McCarty w/ A5 Custom/59 hybrid & PGn -> Mesa/Boogie Mark IV

I use that for the majority of my heavy stuff nowadays...ranging from progressive metal, to groove metal, to alt metal, and a little hard rock just for good measure.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

guitar...boss tu-2...boss oc-2...digitech whammy...area 51 wah...Monroe Drive...keeley modded boss tr-2...mxr flanger...custom "bullseye" script phaser....mesa dual recto (or peavey ultra plus or '79 Marshall JMP...mostly the recto).

in the loop is my custom "hot rod" delay and a line 6 dl4.

loads of pedals to mess with and yes even a keeley modded tremolo for metal...set that sucker on a real choppy setting and you can do real cool high gain stuff.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

JV Strat (Air Zone bridge, SDS-1 neck) >> Morley Bad Horsie >> Mesa Tremoverb

Simple and effective at the moment, I add effects (delay for solos, and maybe a tad of a phaser) post recording atm.

My current plan for the future is a MM Petrucci 7-string for a second quality guitar and a multi fx unit for live flavor.

Edit: BTW, I play a lot of forms of metal, usually of the heavier mold. Brutal death, technical death, black, goregrind, (brutal)thrash, ect...

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

Jackson DKMG with all strings tuned down 1 whole step.

Pickups are DiMarzio. A 'Humbucker From Hell' in the neck and a 'D Sonic' in the bridge.

Amp is a Crate solidstate that works very well for Heavy Metal. This is one area where solidstate is actually favored.

This setup just sounds like pure Heavy Metal, not Metal. Loads of treble, firm but warm bass. Very dry. My setup is best for high gain 80's-type HM, not modern Metal as it doesn't have the tone and/or eq. It's basically a fat, heavily distorted lead tone.

Bass - 7.1
Shape (scooped) - 7
Treble - 6.5
Gain - 6.5

This usually gets the job done :)

I love Megadeth, Metallica, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Opeth, 80s metal and all stuff in those veins of music..

I play it all with an American Standard Strat (SSS) through a Traynor YCV50 Blue. Heaviest single coil sound I've ever heard..

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

Any of my guitars - Randall. Perfect for every kind of metal. It has 2 gain channels, the classic and the modern, both totally awesome. The clean channel and the boosted clean channels are great too.

Zakk wylde overdrive for extra solo gain, wah pedal used sparingly.

I love amps with lots of preamp drive on tap like the randall, washburn, and my tube amps.

I can plug just about anything into anything I have, crank it, let it rip.

I don't need much more than that. On occasion I will use my fulltone tube tape echo (real thing, not emulation). Get the walls melting.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

Today I was getting some solid metal tones using just my SG into my cranked Bassman. None of my pedals were adding any 'dirt', just compression...so I just left 'em all out of the chain and sounded great.

I think metal's more about HOW you play than the gear. If you thrashed a Tele into a Twin and screamed a lot, it would be pretty metal.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

Ibanez RG1527 (Blaze bridge) in standard, Schecter C-1 Stealth (85/81).

Maxon OD808, BOSS NS-2.

Peavey 5150II -> Mesa Oversized 4x12.

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

Guitars are in my sig and i have different guitars setup for different tunings, so i cahnge around quite a bit. But i have three different rigs depending on the occasion

Very technical modern style:
guitar->Boss NS-2 & Morley Tremonti wah->Engl Powerball -> Engl 4x12 V30 Cab(or maybe two of them i want to bypass a crappy PA)

More oldschool and melodic:
guitar->Boss NS-2 & Morley Tremonti wah & Modded Boss SD-1(booster)-> Engl Sovereign 100 combo-> Engl 4x12 V30(i simply unplug the internal speaker

Home use:
guitar->Boss NS-2 & Morley Tremonti wah & Modded Boss SD-1(booster)-> Engl Sovereign 100 combo(just the internal speaker to keep it quiet)

Re: Metal guys, what is your current setup?

VHT 50/CL
Vintage Marshall cab (grey grillz)
SG Supreme

I might get a CLX later on, but I'm not really sure.
