Metal strat switch tip?

So been looking for a metal switch tip for a stratocaster to replace the plastic ones it comes with.

I've had a look around the internet and not been able to find anyone that has them?

Just looking for a black metal one to match a set of black metal strat style volume/tone knobs i'm looking to get.

Anyone got any idea where i could find the metal switch tip?

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

I've seen Chrome over at guitarpartsonline.com
but I think its chromed plastic

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

The black plastic ones are shiny and should look really good.
The chrome ones are plastic, as said above.

The guitar is already equiped with the Fender 3 way blade switch so can't go for the gibson style 3 way.

I have a black plastic one already but thought a black metal one would give a more solid feeling on the switch and match the volume/tone knobs better.

Can't seem to find any anywhere though, would've thought this would be a product people would look to buy

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

From what I saw, the only metal knobs are like the Gibson switch has on it. You may have to get creative. If you find one where you can drill the hole out, you might be able to use another type of knob.

hey i wonder if something like these crimp terminals would slide right on.

You could put a screw down the part the wire is meant to go in to make it heavier. you could then just grind it smooth, sand and polish.

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

If you find something that's made of steel or brass you can always turn it black with touch-up bluing. This particular stuff really works. I've used it a lot. It'll give you a nice rich black. Birchwood-Casey Super Blue

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

The only ones I can find offhand are Tele-style (more cylindrical than teardrop); they come in several styles, mostly milled aluminum or brass with a set screw. The problem with the Strat switch tip is it's just too tiny for a set screw, so it has to be friction-fit, and doing that requires very fine tolerances that are easily ruined simply by putting the thing on or taking it off too many times.

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

Write or call Marc Rutters. He can probably make you a black one with a set screw. You won't find one already in existence as a regular product anywhere.

I got a chrome one you can have if you want? I'm sure I've seen black or blued steal tips before but I can't remember when or where I saw them?

Re: Metal strat switch tip?

Or there's always metallic spray paint? As long as you get some nice high gloss & get a few even layers on even a plastic tip, letting them dry 100% in between coats, I'd imagine you could fool just about anyone into thinking its a black metal tip?
