methods for building up body designs?

My old Scarab 2 is going to get a Lovecraftian makeover and I'm going to cover all of the edge, back and the small face dings with gooey purple tentacles. I'm also going to add a big knotted tentacle to the headstock as it's one of those droopy Fenderish heads and not that hockey stick one.
My question is what should I use to apply this graphic? I was thinking about doing a very 60's comic book style linework and halftone style design laying flat, but I'm not hot on doing fillwork just to cover it over. I'd like it to be a little impasto, AKA sticking out. Imagine purple tentacles about the thickness of fruit roll-ups, only totally opaque and hard clearcoated.

Do you think doing the design in 2 part epoxy clay would be a good idea?

Re: methods for building up body designs?

The body is beat to hell. There's dents and nicks everywhere, and I'm not particularly interested in restoring it to pearly yellow. Also, part of the reason I want to do it this way is it'll be easier to get am oscillating tool under it to pop it off when I'm sick of the tentacle look.

Epoxy may be a bit drastic. Anyone know of a high-viscosity acrylic or impasto acrylic? Or maybe I should just goop on some silicone caulking...hmmm

I'd carve bits of wood, then use some wood glue and finishing nails to attach them.
