Metro Amps...like em?

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new dirty amp as I'm tired of my DSL 100. I was looking for a Marshall 1987 (yeah, I know I'll need a power soak), but a fella turned me on to Metro amps. To be honest, I'm leaning toward a new build anyway b/c it seems a lot of the originals I've found have had mods or have been modded and returned to stock. I could go the new re-issue Marhall route, but the Metros are hand wired PTP (I don't think the Marshalls are). The clips sound good on the ye olde You Tube as well. Does anyone have opinions about these amps in terms of construction/reliability/tone?

Thanks!

Metro is good stuff. I built my 2204 from a metro board. George is a Marshall specialist. The Marshall 1987 RI is a PCB amp while Metro's are hand wired, And over engineered using mostly 2w & 3w resistors and Zoso caps.

George makes incredible amps and great works of art. He's very generous with advice and help should you request it. Super Guy, Outstanding Amps, what more could you look for? Whether you're looking for one of his builds, or any of his kits, or parts you can't go wrong.

Love mine. Sounds great, and they have fantastic service. George is a great guy and will go out of his way to help you.

I highly recommend their post-phase inverter master volume kit. Another plus is that the turret board construction makes the amp easy to mod/tweak.

Re: Metro Amps...like em?

Thanks for the info guys. I e-mailed him and got a quick reply. I'm leaning toward his amps now...I was also considering a Splawn. He's working on an efx loop design that he hopes to implement soon...once that's done, I'll more than likely go with his 1987 build.

Re: Metro Amps...like em?

Dude, I have a Splawn, and I can assure you it sounds better than every marshall out there... And those prices Metro amps are charging are way too much... 1100$ for a kit?? Did you ever play an old marshall? Those amps are hard to play on, sound great only when cranked, and are not for everyone. If you're looking for single channel you can get a splawn for 1500$, if you want a kit I hear Ceriatone is great for the money.
