I believe that metronome is better. I just mentioned it as you said you'd like it cheap. If you can't jam there I guess it's not for you.

I downloaded a free metronome program for my Palm. It's called BeatMatch. It lets you tap in the tempo, which makes it a great tool for figuring out what tempo a song is in. My only complaint is that you can't enter a tempo numerically - it only accepts the tapping.
