Interesting indeed, I will keep my opinions out of this thread tho... ;)

+1, not being a fan of HC of MF in the first place I´ll take mom´s advice "If you can´t say anything good, then STFU" :D

I don't mind the gear reviews, at least I don't mind wading through them all in an effort to sift out the valuable ones. With enough reviews, you can get a pretty good general sense of what the product is all about..........Tell the truth, when you hear about some piece of gear and you don't recognize the company, don't you do a quick HC search for some reviews? I know I do. Sometimes I just do it to get the website.

Great post Scott. I agree 100%. I sift through all the BS. It's pretty easy to spot..... ;)

E.G. A review about a Les Paul Standard usually goes suttin like this....

"I'm using this new Les Paul Standard through a Crate 10 watt GFXDXYZ Solid State amp with 85 digital effects and the sound is SOooooooooo F$%^&ing GREAT! IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE (Insert name of lame-ass guitar player/band here). I TOTALLY blow away the other guitar player in my band and his POFS Marshall Stack...MARSHALL SUCKS BIG FAT @$$, sorry but its the truth...all you Marshall players need to get a REAL amp....like my Crate...If I could give it a 20 out of 10 I would. And check out my band's page at www. eat$hitanddie.com

oh yeah...check out the Peavey Bandit 15 too, My brother has one of those and he totally nails the sound of (you know the drill), that little amp has some SERIOUS CHUGGA CHUGGA LOW END"

:D :laugh2:

Re: MF Buys Harmony Central

I think Harmony Central is a great resource for reviews as it's datadase is absolutely huge. You can find out information on some gear that would be almost impossible to track down anywhere else.

Sure, there are some misguided reviewers there however if you want to get a general consensus on something then it can't be beat (unless the SD forum has it covered).

I think the amount of idiot reviews at HC is over-exaggerated. There are plenty of useful reviews there.

That said, I prefer the basic interface of HC as it is and I would prefer MF not to mess with it.

Re: MF Buys Harmony Central

+1 hames, it would be missed if the reviews went..

if you take a broad number of views, you can get a really good idea of what the product is like. it can also throw up concerns you hadn't noticed before - 'the power connection is loose', 'the jacks are flimsy' etc..

Re: MF Buys Harmony Central

I post reviews there, only because that is where the most people go, and a thorough review is always helpful. Of course I'm under 30 so it appears that many guys disregard what I say simply due to age. I also search their database, but only after a search here.

Actually, I tend to disregard many of the reviews posted by people over 30, because many of them are parents who picked up a samick made guitar from GC because the salesman directed them to it and they're utterly clueless about anything that has to do with guitars. At least the teenager who's trying to play along with Limp Bizkit or Christina Aguilera has actually played the guitar. True, there are some fifty year olds that know more about guitars than I ever will, but they aren't the only ones giving reviews.

Re: MF Buys Harmony Central

i've been using HC reviews longer than any other online guitar site and find it very useful...
obviously, you have to sift through the reviews, but the junk is pretty easy to spot and scroll on...pretty much like any other web site, guitar or not...
don't think i've ever seen a review from a parent who bought gear they didn't use and knew nothing about...if there are any, probably someone's idea of a joke...

Re: MF Buys Harmony Central

I always use HC for ebay research, and I think it is pretty easy to tell the legitimate and bogus reviews apart.

I could be thinking about Musician's Fiend, but I guess they're the same now. :)

It is pretty easy to tell the difference, though.
