Hey guys. I've pretty much decided to purchase an Avatar 4x12 (slant) with 2 eminence v12s and 2 celestion 70/80s. BUT, my next purchase (after that) is a head. I play everything from Hendrix to Green Day to Tool to Slayer. Which would be better, in your own opinions-

I like them both, but have played neither and I'd like to know what you guys think of how they sound, their features and the such.

Thanks a bunch. Peace.

Get a tube amp, vintage peavey's run cheap and are great.

Yeh if your really looking for very good tones get the peavey, but if your stuck for cash the mg100 is still a great amp for the price..

Yeah, it's not that I'm stuck for cash, per se, but I can't spend too much (i.e. 750$ tops) but It will be my first REAL amp considering all I own now is Squier practice amp. I'm not sure I want a tube amp for my first. It might sound weird but I think I just want a new solid state head.

Thanks for the help, guys. Anyone else got anything?

Peace.

I was thinking the same when i got my first tube amp..
I thought that mabye i shouldn go with tubes yet cos the solid states i've played would proboly suit for another few years..but after trying the DSL i was like, Whoa this things sweet... unfortunatly though you do have to crank them a bit to get those killer tones and ive only cranked my DSL a few times for short periods, so one of my next investments is a Weber Mass so i can get those killer tones... Your best bet is probobly a second hand peavy tube amp and a second hand attenuator....

with 750, Get an XXX combo, spend another 100 or whatever. The Super 40 combo kicks major ass.

I have the XL and IMHO is a great 2 channel amp even if it has 6 different tones.
Got it as a back up for my ENGL ,now I use live both amps in Y mode.
Bear in mind that I use it only for distortion even if the clean channel is useful.
It can do super hi gain tones and it's voiced on the lower mids ( it even does a great "nu metal" scooped hi gain if You want).
Also:despite other ss amps I've played, the XL sounds awesome at loud volumes.

I was between the Peavey and the new Randall RH : I liked the Peavey way better. Also, the Peavey ultra channel played at the same time with my ENGL heavy lead channel is just hi gain heaven :cool2:

I can't help you about the MG but I've played a Marshall AVT50 and was harsh as hell.
If You want to go SS ,check out Peavey or Randall : they make the best SS amps IMHO

Good luck with your search!

Thanks a bunch. My friend has a randall rh-200 half stack and I really like it, but it seems to have limited versatility and I need that. I think I'll lokk into the xl, xxx and the such.

Thanks.

Peace.

One of the reasons why i want a low wattaged tube amp cranked its pumping good tones and at nice volumes. I would go witht he marshall yeah its a ss amp but i find amrshal has done a god job with thier ss amps. OPne good thing about ss is that they dont break down as easily i guess less glass to smash!
