Michael schenker tone question

Re: Michael schenker tone question

I've always like the HO pup clips. A couple of our better forum players here (Wattage, and Kevlar3000) have used them and posted some clips over the years too- always sounded great. I wouldn't hesitate to try a set. There is also: (I'd love to have a set of this guys Shaw copies)
His pu's have a real nice voice to them,

and his work looks very well done,

Huh. And all these years I've just been using a chorus set as a notch filter to get that first MSG album (electric chair cover, Into The Arena and all that) "cocked wah" tone.

which chorus do you use? i cant see that dialing in that "set wha" frequency but hey if it works for ya:naughty:

Re: Michael schenker tone question

Thats Kev ya posted a yootoob clip of.

My old MIJ Boss phaser would do that that cocked wah thing really well too with all the controls set to "0". One of the bands I jammed around with as a teen used to do alot of covers off the first Fastway album, and I had my phaser set like that when I did those tunes..just sounded right live.

But thats not the way Mikey does it obviously. He knew that sweep inside and out for every frikking lick, chord, and pup switch change, just as well as he knew how to play the guitar itself.

Re: Michael schenker tone question

Michael didn't use the wah wah much until around 1977 (Lights Out album). After that he used it very ocasionally on lead breaks. Just listen to UFO Strangers In The Night he uses the wah wah on just a few solos. In MSG he started to use the wah wah a lot on lead breaks. You can clearly hear that on MSG One Night At Budokan. That midrangey tone back in UFO in the 70"s was in his fingers with the help of a hard driven 1987 Marshall and his Flying V. I also believe his Marshalls was stock and he didn't get in to modded amps until the later 80's or early 90's. The 2205 Marshalls he's been using since maybe the late 80's at least early 90's is stock. He sometimes used a little Pignose amp in the studio with UFO.
