Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

Hi Guys,

I have a little issue with my middle pickup (Duckbucker) in my Everything Axe set.

I know it has less output than the Lil' 59 & JB Junior, but it sound significantly weaker.

I sent my strat to the lab for setup, first it was a bit too high for me, and still very weak, so i asked to lower it down a bit so the pick doesnt get stuck in the pickup when i do lead.

I know it suppose to make it weaker when i lower it down, but not like that.

and here its get weirder ! the 3 higher strings (thinner) sounds fine! but the lower (thicker) are almost dead!

i can hear them only if i bring the volume of the amp upper, but than the higher strings sound stronger unproportionally.

Can anyone help? maybe i should ask to raise the magnets a bit?

Thanks!

Re: Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

You can certainly raise the poles on the bass side, as well as tilting the whole pickup (raise the bass side of the pickup to match the output. Make sure both sides of the middle pickup are working, too, by gently tapping n the poles with a screwdriver while that pickup is selected, and the guitar is plugged in. Did you buy these pickups separately, or did you buy a loaded pickguard?

Re: Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

Thank you so much for your help!

I bought the loaded pickguard.
I tried raising the poles, and you have yo hear this!

first i did what you suggested, tapped on the each one of the poles, they are just fine, then played a bit the the bass poles, didnt hear any difference.
swtiched between modes, and when came back to the middle only, suddenly it worked just fine!, i lowered the poles once again, and still, responsive, moved between modes again played a bit, suddenly the problem occured again. switched again, tapped, raised, lowered.. solved. i dont quite understand the problem, but now its working ok.

What do you think?

Re: Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

Either some wires to the duckbucker are loose or some are exposed and sometimes touch something thats ground and get grounded out.

Re: Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

It sounds like the coil that contains the bass side poles is intermittent/faulty. That could simply be the connection(s) in the control cavity, or that the coil junction (red+white) is accidentally touching ground or touching hot somewhere, having not been properly taped off.

I'd opt for red/white connection. I would be more worried if no matter what you did, 1/2 the poles weren't working.

Thank you guys for trying to help.

1 & 2 do work, but from time to time they get shut down when i switch between modes, maybe for of the reasons you have mentioned.

I will have to look inside, you gave me good starting point

Thank you so much!

Re: Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

If the Duckbucker correctly follows the standard SD 4 insulated wire + bare ground convention then black and red need to be tied together and green and white need to be to tied together. Standard SD phase puts the red/black to hot and green/white with the bare wire to ground.

I'm not sure why Frank is talking about the Duckbucker as if it is supposed to be wired in series; it isn't. It is intended to be wired in parallel.

Right, it is wired in parallel, but some pictures posted here might help...at least give us an idea.

Hi Guys,

I am a bit confused with all this inputs :18:

Can you please help me understand what do i need to ask for in the lab? so they can easily understand and solve

Thanks :))

Re: Middle pickup issue in Everything Axe set

I dont wont to mess with the pickguard now cause i have warranty in the lab, so if i pull everything out, i lose the warranty i think, so no pics.

but if the guys in the lab are clueless, i will consult you guys, thank you so much

Come back and let us know what they say.

So at last... appeared to be some dust issue, a bit of cleaning and all good :)
