Mids

Re: Mids

I'm under the impression that there are a lot more bassists out there than we think.

If you like making the room shake that much, you like your woofy-assed car stereo that much, you like cranking the bass on your stereo at home...

You might ask yourself if you are in fact a guitarist and not a bassist.

That's what the bass is for. It brings the rumble. It's true.

Re: Mids

It's the right character of mids that is hard to get right with guitar . . . upper mids sound too bright, lower mids sound too muddy. Sometimes you want to do funk type comping and be less noticeable and more in the background (reduced mids), sometimes you want to cut right through for a lead solo (pushed mids). It's a fine balancing act between the guitar you choose, the tubes in your amp, your speakers, your tone stack, and your personal preference.

well stated, and I agree.

I've also noticed that some people like the punch they get from the closed back speaker cabinet with tight low frequency response and mistakenly think that the only way to get that is by pushing the low frequencies in the EQ. In fact, the right combination of pickup, guitar, amp, and speaker cabinet will provide that punch across most of the frequence range of a guitar at the right volume.
