MIM Strats

Re: MIM Strats

It's best if you can play some in the store. Generally good very quality for the money, and you can find a real gem if you search around enough.

Yeah, I believe it was WhoFan that found an MIM Srat with a HIGHLY flamed maple neck. Unfortunately, it had a rosewood board. I have idea who would commit such a crime of putting a rosewood board on such a nicely flamed neck.

wouldn't have mattered..I'm pretty sure that MIM strats with maple necks have a maple overlay and are not solid maple. So the flame probably would have been covered up with a less than stellar piece of maple anyway

Re: MIM Strats

I love mine, after the pup changes, bridge upgrade, and rewire. But really great axes to build off of.

Re: MIM Strats

I've got a MIM Strat and a MIM Tele, and I love 'em both. Like Drew, I swapped out the pups, and it's a fantastic axe. Of all my guitars, I'd say I play my MIM Strat and G&L ASAT the most.

+1 on both accounts, but do shop around for a good one that really sings. Also keep in mind if you're picky about specs like fretboard radius, fret size, neck shape ect. that not all years are the same, so seek out what you prefer.

Re: MIM Strats

Play loads and loads and loads of them in stores. You will find A LOT of bad ones, and I mean lots. When you find a good one though, they are amazing guitars for the price, specially after a pup change.

Re: MIM Strats

I like them, but I like late 80's/early 90's MIA Peavey Predators better. They're built better, from what I'm hearing they're consistent, they require about the same upgrades an MIM Fender does, and you can get 4 of them for the price of 1 MIM Strat.

Even if they were only similar quality, the fact that you can safely buy them off ebay and know you're getting a good one is worth quite a bit, to me anyway.

Re: MIM Strats

they are great, but some years are much better than others. From my experience 90's MIM's are generally awesome.

ya that sucker is Flamed for sure.... a neck from Warmoth with that much flame would cost a small fortune... and that MIM strat is an amazing sounding strats... one of my favourites.. Oddly i like that rosewood... i wish it was all maple so it was all flame maple but it is such an odd piece as is i'll take as i can get it.

only issue i have with that MIM strat is the G string is ringing out quite loud above the nut... annoying and difficult to stop

over the years i've owned 4 or 5 MIM strats and 1 Tele.... the tele is amazing and 2 of the strats have been real winners.... 1 was a dog... the other is ok... i sold the dead one for the flame maple necked one..
