MIM telecasters

Re: MIM telecasters

MIM Fenders are the best value for the dollar at the moment, bar none. You can pick up any one of them and play a gig. You may not have the most spectacular night, but you'll make it through.

Re: MIM telecasters

My MIM Tele is great! I hard a hard time picking it from the rest, because they all seemed pretty good, so I don't think production inconsistency is as much a deal as with MIM Strats, but then again, I am relatively new to Telecasters, so perhaps I'm not the one to judge.

But yeah, mine rocks, under mild distortion, it sounds fat/ Played clean, it sounds sweet. I like it so much so that it keeps getting put right down to the bottom of my 'To Be Duncanised' list. Part of me thinks I'll never do it because I like these pickups a lot. Again though, I'm new to Telecasters.

Re: MIM telecasters

MIMs are plenty good. The hardware and electronics may not be quite up the the USA standards, but it might cheaper to upgrade those on an MIM than to buy a US tele product. Keep your eye on the used market too. I picked this one up w/ hard case for $150:

$150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW, that'a AMAZING!! And the decals are more the American type, so it looks even sweeter!! (I take the 50s/early 60s decals over the 70s and 80s any day).

Re: MIM telecasters

Thanks guys. Yeah, I knew it was a good deal the instant I saw it on Craigslist. It was one of those things where I looked at the webpage and the ad wasn't there, then I refreshed and it popped up. I emailed right away and apparently got through first. The seller got like 50+ responses after mine but was nice enough to hold it for me and not jack up the price. I also bought a Shure KSM27 from him for like $130.

The guys over on HC said this was a "Tex-Mex Fat Tele" or something like that. So the humbucker in the neck is actually stock and is wired so the coils can be split (the p/u selector is a 5-pos). The bridge p/u is a Tex-Mex. I'm replacing the neck p/u with a 4 conductor Seth Lover but I like the bridge p/u just fine. I also agree that the decal placement looks cooler this way compared to the current ones. I really like the "quotes" :)

Although I'm no guitar snob, I never expected to fall in love with this "cheap" guitar, but that's exactly what happened. For $150? No brainer!
