Mineral Streaks?

I'm curious how much these affect the tone of a guitar? Or is it only the appearence that suffers?

The reason i'm asking is i've got an old acoustic guitar, with what seems to be a mineral streak on the top.

Re: Mineral Streaks?

If it's in the top it's more likely a pitch pocket. Probably tannish-brown in color?

Mineral streaks are usually found in woods that contain oils/resins such as Ebony's and Rosewoods. They do not adversely affect tone....or appearance if you ask me. :)

.....

Generally only a cosmetic issue.. the mineral streaks are a "natural" occurrence... badly dried wood is a much larger issue ;)

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing here, is it something like gray/silverish dots or lines? I have them on my APX's fretboard (rosewood). True, most won't consider that a great guitar to begin with but I doubt they have a large impact if any. Plus, I actually like the look.

:scratchch I think i'll hold on to it a while longer! :naughty:

Here's a pic of the top, it's a little overexposed from the flash on the camera, the very bad camera, by the way! But i hope it's usable
