Mini-humbucker to P90

Hello. How much work is involved to replace mini-humbucker with a set of P90s? Is there routing and drilling involved? Since the LP Deluxe is my only Gibson guitar, I am not really interested in cutting it up.

Is there a good mini-humbucker pickup that has the sound of a P90?

Thanks.

Re: Mini-humbucker to P90

The mini bezels and the P90 covers are the same size, so the only trick is how they're mounted. You may need a pair of threaded inserts and screw and glue them into the wood so you can mount the P90, although IIRC some P90's have the same screw positions as the minis.

If they are the stock minis, you might give the Custom mini a try. Sounds like a better mini IMO, but still tight and bright as you add more gain on it. I had a Dimarzio DLX90 which was kind of meh...sounded a bit P90-ish when volume is on 10, got dark as the volume rolled back. IIRC it had mismatched coils and is probably similar to their Bluesbucker.
