Right now I have the stock white pick guard on my partscaster and it's just not doing it for me... So what do you guys think? Mint green or white pearloid?

Crap pictures from my crap phone...

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

What color is the guitar? It's kinda hard to tell.

Is it the Pontiac blue one?

I have a blue pearl guard that looks awesome. I am not finished with the guitar yet so it's not mounted.

Edit: Mine may be blue shell. I need to dig it out to see.

Yeah it's pontiac blue... it's pretty hard to tell from the pics unfortunately... that's due a lot to the camera/lighting and partially to how light of a blue it is. blue on blue would be cool though. Now that I think about I might just buy a few different options and try em out. I can always use em on future projects.

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

Mint green - yuck. Unless it is an actual yellowed/greened cellulose nitrate guard from the '60's, then it looks hokey as all hell.

Pearloid? Maaaaybe...

Parchment? Yummy! Basically white, just knocked down a hair in brightness.

Single ply clear-coated black, like a blackguard Fender? Hell yes!

Tele dome knobs and barrel switch tip? Also a hell yes.

So the new mint green guards are really that bad? I love the look of a sonic blue strat with a mint green pick guard... and that is why I thought mint green might be a good choice.

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

It's a matter of opinion. The uniform mint green looks horrible to me, in any possible use, and it also looks very unlike those
green guards" actually looked. If you want that look, I say dish out the big bucks for one of those Lashing guards; they're totally worth it.

Wow... $300 for a pick guard. That's more than I've got in the guitar. Looks like that's out of the question. I wanted to keep the same color scheme or close to it. I just really wanted to add something else to it. Because it looks a little plain with just white...Looks like white pearloid it is.

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

Aged white or parchment IMO.

Or remove the existing one and soak it in a container or pan filled with hot black coffee for 30 sec to a minute...and viola!

My new Deluxe came with a new mint green guard. It looks just fine. Subtle and refreshing! Like any good mint should be!

I'm still gonna buy a pearloid I think but I will definitely give that a try... how long do you think I should leave it in the coffee? Thanks for the idea!

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

I agree with Itsa about the obvious fakery of Mint Green 'guards. (They should be that ping pong ball grey-green shade.) Parchment, blue moto, single ply black, grey pearlescent. All good.

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

Coolio... you must like the black bobbin humbucker' s in strats eh?

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

Oh heck, go with the Mint Green. Everybody else obviously has a white pickguard

Huh? They're $140 at N.O.S. Guitars, and $100 at Groovy Guitars.

I was looking at the aged one... which is $299. Either way it's a load of money to put into a pickguard

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

Mint green isn't bad in the slightest, just some people have very strong personal opinions.

Or maybe he's only bought a crap pickguard and think that all mint green is the same.

This is a Fender mint guard with blonde......works VERY well, not yuck at all, and by far the best colour for this guitar.

Re: Mint green or pearloid?

Sets my teeth on edge. The discolouration is overdone.

Mint green or pearloid?

Of course it's a strong personal opinion. I never claimed otherwise, just shared my opinion, which is what was asked for. I'm also not ignorant of what the variety of mint green products on the market look like. If someone else likes the opaque, uniform look of current mint green guards, good for them; and it certainly makes things easy for them. But it is a fact that they do not come close to copping the nitro guard look, and I feel that this should always be mentioned to someone considering one, because if that look is what they are after, they will be disappointed with mint green.

I do, however recently I've been thinking about going full Dimarzio and loading my HWYOne with black hum canceling single rails and black dials to match the new plastic...for a different look and sound. Sort of a metalized Corgan motif.
