Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

I won't lie Lew, I like gain and from time to time I like a lot of it but that super compressed over saturated buzzing preamp distortion tone is not something I really like.

As for the store/life/money/doing what you love I wish you the best of luck with all of it...sounds like April is already full but hopefully it will be worth it!

Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

I like a little overdrive too. I mean, Jeff Beck is my favorite living guitarist!:laugh2:

But to crank everything to 10 and put the master on 2 and then write a review based on that?

Crazy!:smack:

I agree 100% with that...both the tone and Jeff Beck!

Im not sure how much time you spent with the ZVEX Fuzz Factory but if you turn all the knobs to 10 it shuts off! I always liked that 'feature"...Zac calls it the "idiot setting"

Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

Great looking amp, and logo! It really seems like the best era of amps is right now. Nowadays, it's hard to say the 50's/60's was the golden era, when all these great boutique companies are taking things to the extreme, qualitywise!

Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

The only worry I have with all these amps...will they all take out some of that raw edge in the current hype for smooth dooof tight blah blah sounds??
This one does sound from the description to be more raw and real.
Well maybe this is the golden time for boutique and stuff like that, but everything is becoming all too sweet sounding, too pleasing, too "correct"!
I want more roars and distinct sounds, otherwise we will all sound bland in the end...I think.

Bruce and I grew up together in Detroit, played together in alot of the same blues and R&B bands, and grew up on the same music. Being a hot rod builder and drag racer from Detroit, no way would Bruce design a bland amp. :laugh2: When I first plugged into the Aurora I was in a cranky mood and felt like it was to raw...like not clean and smooth enough! But it was me and the mood I was in because after about two minutes I was getting those clear but crunchy/crystal tones like you hear on Riviera Paradise and Little Wing. The Aurora has tons of personality and grit...as well as that crunchy/crystal Marshall plexi/tweed Bassman sort of thing. I'd really like to show this amp off to you guys if any of you can make it to Dallas this April... :) ...cuz despite it's good looks, this puppy can bark like a junk yard dog! :laugh2: Lew

Great, that sounds like something I would love then:D
And funny enough I am a big sucker for motorbikes, roadracing and dirtbikes:D

Alot of the best techs are the same way and started out tinkering with engines....

Bruce's race cars held some records at the Detroit Dragway back in 60's.:)

Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

Yeah my partner in the effect onslaught at work is also an old dirtbiker:D
And he is great at making stuff!
Cool about those record making cars:D
I grew up with my dad being a Electronics engineer, and he loves mechanics as well...I just dig stuff like this, and raw amps with a twist just appeals to that side.

Terry and Christian: Are you guys serious about coming to Dallas in April? I'd love to meet you two in person and get your feedback on Bruce's new amps! Lew
I wouldn't say no to the idea!!!!

I'll have to start making some plans now; no idea when in April?

Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

Lew, I've told Bruce a few times, he really ought to spruce up his website. You need to help him with that man. He's got some great stuff.

I'm not an expert, hell, my site is pretty lame by most standards. Just a suggestion. He builds great stuff. His kits are the best. Site needs a bit of an update. This Aurora is an excellent excuse to go ahead and spruce the update.

Re: Mission Aurora Amp Review!

Scott, both Bruce and I need to take a class on website design. So that's just what I'm planning to do. Thanks for the suggestion! Any chance you'll make it to the Dallas show? It'd be nice to meet up there. Lew

I've been to the "big" show there in DFW, pretty sure it was around April a few years ago, and I cam away very unimpressed. Meeting you and bruce would be worth the drive, so I'll try to make it.

I actually stopped by Bruces' shop a year ago, but I missed him and coulnd't wait any longer and had to run to the airport.

That'd be great Scott!

I've never been to the Dallas show but I told Bruce I'd help him out and demo the amp for him.
