Re: Mixing Review

I really liked it. Although the chorus wasnt really my thing. The girl in it has a wonderful voice. The guitar was like.. pretty close to my dream clean rhythm tone.

There's only one issue, the bass drum sounds very muted, they might need to be rerecorded. Theres a part near about 3/4 where both of them sing at once and it feels a little funny, you might want to lover her voices volume just a tad, because what he's saying/singing suddenly gets overpowered by her saying/singing something else.

The mastering sounds actually really professional and modern, good job on it. And take this all with a grain of salt, im no recording studio master or anything close to that.

Re: Mixing Review

The vocals sound nice!

Kick could use some more beater definition & less "cardboard" boxiness. Cutting somewhere between 3-600Hz might help eliminate some boxiness & if you have the beater in the recorded track (i.e. the highs weren't rolled off during tracking), boosting between 2.5kHz - 5 kHz could bring out more of the beater sound (maybe want to blend a subtle amount for this style). If you haven't already, notching a bit out of the bass guitar in the kick's main ranges could help keep it from masking the kick.

Oh, you might try some NY compression techniques too for some fun! Take the drum mix out to a separate stereo bus & compress the heck out of it, then add this back just below the original, uncompressed or less compressed drum tracks. Should give it a nice punchy sound!

I can't make a very accurate comment about the cymbals due to the .mp3 compression...but they did sound nice & crisp! The snare was good too.

The layered clean guitars sounded good, but it seemed like the position moved around a lot... Kind of started on the left & then it'd come from center & around 3:13 it was a little right-heavy and then it shifted again. A little disorienting, but good sounds!

My overall impression is that you have a great start!
