In Mahogany American Strat... But no pics*! And along with an ROHS SH2n, but we all know what that sounds like, and very few people have even seen an SH2b before, let alone a ground shield model from the eighties, so...
Speaking of 'how an SH2n sounds,' I'll take a stab: low-ish output, low on bass, relatively low on mids, very open, non-rounded, 'flat' tone containing a bunch of harmonic content. Well, all of the above applies for the Jazz bridge. Comparing it to what was there before (Screamin Demon,) they're both scooped pickups, but the Jazz bridge has more mid honk. They're both un-compressed, but the Jazz moreso. They're both bright, but while the Demon actually has a lot of tight bass, the Jazz has a smaller amount of very loose bass (that can sound pretty big with a bit of drive.)
The biggest diff. is probably the much softer attack and more harmonic high end vs. the Screamin Demon (which is a very quick, very single coil-like pickup, probably why I like it so much, probably why it's going back in VERY soon, unless I get really used to the Jazz neck.) I've been trying to determine orchestral analogues for some pickups; the JB "sings,', the Screamin' Demon is a sax, the 59 is somewhat trumpet-like, so I guess the Jazz bridge is... A trombone.
Mine only tests at 7.2 DC, compared to 7.0 for the neck pickup (and so to my ears provides a much better tonal balance when switching pickups than say, the SH2 and SH4 combo.) The combined tone is a bit bright for the jazzier things I usually like to do w/ combined pickups but at least I have a tone control in this one (with two 500ks.) In terms of output vs. the Screamin Demon, there's actually not a huge diff, but I'd have to gauge the Demon as having slightly higher output (although the Mv ratings say otherwise.)
At the end of the day, man, I REALLY like the Screamin Demon, although that's likely because I'm a big Fender single coil fan; the Jazz bridge is much more 'humbucker' and much less brash. I'll keep it in for maybe a month and see how I feel. It does have a bit more chime and clarity than the Demon, although the Demon has a bunch of that too so...
...
* So I usually have luck with cheap Chinese pickguards, but I finally got one where only two holes line up with any screws at all; the rest are close enough that I can tell they were trying for a Standard eleven hole pattern, yet far enough off that I can't even fudge elongating the hole etc. without making it look totally ghetto. Beside, it's a freaking humbucker in black with no Duncan silkscreen, I hope you have imagination enough to conjure the image of one in a Strat with a flopping-around pickguard regardless.
