Re: Mod for the SFX-07 Shape Shifter?
Hi indytone - I posted on The Gear Page but thought I'd reply to your post here as well. I also have the Shape Shifter and love it, but needed to set the tempo when the effect was bypassed, exactly as you're asking about. To me that is the biggest weakness of the pedal and it's a shame it doesn't come standard like this.
I typically don't do pedal mods (we prefer to call them "enhancements") and prefer to build amps and pedals from the ground up that don't need to be modded. But I like the Shape Shifter a lot so after I figured out how to "fix" it, I have been doing it for others as well. It makes a huge different when using the tap trem live. Here's what I do to the pedal:
The yellow led is converted to be the on/off indicator, the red led flashes all the time to let you know where the tempo is set, and you can tap in new tempos whether the pedal is on or off. I also replace the tap switch with a jack (optional). These changes make the pedal much friendlier for live use, especially when you're only using trem in one part of the song.
I like this pedal a lot and have found it to be very flexible in getting exactly the right trem I'm feeling, and at exactly the right time (with the tap).
