Re: mod to switch from clean to crunch on Alchemist?
Hi, I'am new here from Germany. So please forgive my my bad english.
I have made some mods on the Alchemist that might be interesting:
1) The switch between the Clean and Crunch
2) Getting a VolumeBoost on Solo
3) made a Top and two cabinets from a 212
4) put in two Tonebones with the EL84 on pentode mode
first in german, I try to translate later:
Mich hat ja ewig gestört, dass der keinen Fußschalter für Clean/Crunch hat. Man kann da hinter den Schalter zwei Kabel anlöten, zu einer Buchse führen und dann mit FS schalten. Aber Achtung!!! mit der Masse (elektrisch) des Amps darf keine Verbindung hergestellt werden, sonst schaltet der immer zwischen Gold und Mercury um! Funzt ansonsten super. Die Lautstärken muss man a weng angleichen aber dann passtz schon.
Auch dass der keinen SOLOBOOST (also Lautstärke) hat is ja so gar nich praxisgerecht. Da ich den FX nicht brauche, da ich keine ModFX habe und nicht mag, mache ich mir den Regler vom parallelen FX zunutze. Der gibt nämmich ganz schön Stoff. Einfach n Kabel mit Schalter dazwischensetzen (ich hab da n Looper im Einsatz, weil ich den gerade rumliegen hatte) und mit dem FX-Return-Regler die benötigte Lautstärke einstellen. Hall und Delay werden dann n bischen leiser, aber damit kann ich leben. Der Klang wird ansonsten auch nicht verfälscht, da ja zwei identische Signale parallel zueinander laufen und nur der eine Teil stärker verstärkt wird.
Ach ja, ich hab da die Tonebones mit EL 84 drin. Der Sound ändert sich nicht wirklich viel, wird haltn bischen rotziger, aber wirklich marginal. Vorteil: nie wieder Bias einstellen und er brüllt nicht ganz so laut.
Apropos laut. Ich h(b)tte die 212 Comboversion Hab mir daraus ein Top mit 2 1x12er Boxen gemacht und festgestellt, der klingt am besten (is natürlich subjektiv) mit geschlossenen Boxen, wo ein EVM 12 S drin arbeitet! Mein Gott da geht die Sonne auf. Da schiebt er übers ganze Spektrum, ohne Löcher oder Nasen – Reini das hättze doch auch machen könn odda?
Ach ja , zur Zeit plane ich ein Schaltboard, wo ich alle Einzelfunktionen des Amps, die mir wischtisch sin schalten kann und zwar einzeln und in gebrächlichen Kombinationen (so was wie von Clean mit Delay und Boost zu Mercury plus Soloboost ohne Boost und ohne Delay) und das alles analog, ohne Midi. Dafür braucht man´n Adapter von g-lab.

1) I didn't like that I could not change from Clean to Crunch by Footswitch. So I soldered two wires to the Frontswitch of the Amp and put it to a TRS on the backside. But be carefull you should insure that there will be no connection to the ground of the amp. Otherwise it will swittch vorm Gold to Mercury and back and ...
2) I liked to have a soloboost (volume) so I abused the FX-Loop for that. You just have to link a cable with footswitch in the loop and adjust the level knob to the desired level. No good idea if you like to use the loop for modulation effects.
3) no pictures possible???
4) I put tonebones with EL84 into the 6L6 sockets - no mor bias adjusting any more.
