Re: "Modded Marshall"
We're heading down this road...but I want to point out the dual-speaker almost becomes moot as it was (apparently, as all VH tone tidbits) 1 close mic on VH 1, the other channel being from the live chamber at sunset sound. As for the G12-65 ... seems odd to me they would be able to design and get out a speaker so fast based off that. It's always been noted the G12-65 was basically a higher power handling greenback.
Yeah.
Last post on this topic from me, but i also think the speaker equation has a heck of a lot to do with the Modded Marshall sound.
From what I understand, Van Halen not only 'variac'ed' his non-modded ( Pre-Jose)Plexi's for VH-1, but also ran two very clean JBL's and two G12m-20 Celestions -which were really dirty sounding-in the same cabinet. Based upon this, Marshall developed the famous 'G12-65'Celestion of the late 70's to get that kind of sound into the equation of the JMP-'s?
Then other Celestion speakers evolved to get more in step with heavier Modified Marshalls, liek the V30 and now we have so many modern speakers available that sound crushing .
