modded plexi style open sounding distortion/drive pedal advise

I play mostly 80s style hard rock riffage and leads. Think VH, Ratt, Dokken, Ozzy, Whitesnake, White Lion, Extreme, Tesla etc. I play an alder/maple floyd superstrat with a Screamin demon in the bridge into a blackstart HT20. I am looking at getting a distortion pedal that can mimic that modded JCM800 tone that most of these cats were using back in the day. I realize that a lot of these people used the MP1 but I am not interested in a rack setup. Must be stomp box size. Currently I have a Maxon od808 that I use as a clean boost into the dirty channel of my amp which I love but I am looking for a different type of dirty sound. Something that is very open, transparent, and clear yet very dirty, hairy, knarly at the same time. Think VH Unchained or Ratt lay it down. Something with a usable gain knob would be prefered so that it can also sound good with the gain dialed back when needed (can't be a one trick pony). I am thinking of the Wampler plextortion. Any other thoughts out there? Must be under $200

Not gonna happen between a pedal and a hybrid blackstar. Sorry.

While not a "plexi" strictly speaking, an OCD or clone can do 80s hair band stuff with ease, as well as stellar low gain tones. They also work incredibly well with other pedals.

Slave a Bogner Blue (and/or Red) into the power amp through the effects loop and it will work pretty good. Especially with El34 power stage.

But gojng through the pre-amp out front, I agree.
