Modernizing a Vintagy Strat

Re: Modernizing a Vintagy Strat

I permanently hardtailed one of my MIM strats and sincerely regret it. The routing added to the timbre of the instrument and when it was no longer there, the mojo left with it...sniffle...

Re: Modernizing a Vintagy Strat

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you don't replace the trem UNLESS you go Callaham. The bridge on the JV is what Fender uses on their CS vintage style guitars. Additionally I think blocking the trem will give you the sound and rigidity you are looking for.

The bridge Fender uses on my Custom Shop strat is not the same as the Vintage reissues i also own... simular but not the same...

Re: Modernizing a Vintagy Strat

Get some maple scrap and cut a small block that fits between the tremolo block and the point where the spring claw is now attached---remove springs and claw, ground wire goes to the block. Install wood block so trem is flush with body. Loses all the metal and I think it's about as close as you can get to a hardtail without serious effort...
