Modified Pickups

Hi Everyone.

As you may know, i Work @ Vigier Guitars....
One of our models, the Ultra, had pickup cavities shaped exactly
after the pickups. That Means all the single coils that have this
triangular extension on the back, to which the cables are soldered,
don't fit in. In fact we only use Dimarzios that were specifically
made for us.

I want Duncans, DImarzios sound good but not vintage at all
and i want a classic sounding instrument.
I tried the cool rails but the cable is located in the middle,
the routing being on the right side of he cavity...
I tried a Duncan Designed, it doesn't fit but sounded PERFECT to me
in a Jackson...

So my question is: do you know a way to get single coils from
Seymour Duncan that would fit this cavities ? On order from the CS ?

Which single coils could give me that glassy and naughty strat sound i got from
the Duncan Designed ?

Re: Modified Pickups

The SSL-5 & SSL-6 don't have lips like all the rest. You can specify no lips and SD will build whatever you like. Technically it is considered a shop floor custom and it doesn't cost much more, or involve a long wait time.

Re: Modified Pickups

Have you tried a "Lil Screamin' Demon". I'm getting mine this week, but the description says its like the humbucker but with a hint of glass. I think that might be too high output for what you're looking for, but you can wire it as a split coil if you like.

Re: Modified Pickups

Have you considered undercutting the pickup route to accommodate the pickup "triangle"? Just a thought. That would maintain the good look; but you would need to rock the pup into place when installing.

Re: Modified Pickups

I thougt about it yes but.....

The Lil Screaming demon looks tempting especially since the Demon and Super V are my favourite pickups ever, but i would rather use them in the bridge than middle or neck.
In the bridge i have a Custom Shop Super V.

This year i bought 6 pickups from SD: 2 Pearly gates Neck, 2 super V and 2 Demons ^^
Yeah, George Lynch has a good tone.

i'll try the SSL-6 and if it doesn't work i'll order from the custom shop
a pickups that is similar to my duncan designed, because i love it.
