modify my amp or buy a new one?

hey, i have a peavey 5150II. i was thinking of eather haveing voodoo amps modify it or buying a new Hughes and Kettner Triamp MKII. Any suggestions? has anyone had any experance with amps modified voodoo amps?

Of course, you could go either way. Personally, I think mods should be reserved for amps that you've truly bonded with, and just need a slight tonal tweak to get it to perfection. My default answer is to sell it for as much as you can get, add more money, and then shop for the perfect amp for you, right out of the box.

I agree with Gearjoneser.
I've got a Super Reverb RI that had up for sale for about a week and had a change of heart. Since the only OTHER things I wanted out of an amp were more mids (BF amps usually have a 10k mid control) and a solid state rectifier (I miss the tight bass of my HRDeville), I've decided to keep my amp and change just those things. I've got a SS replacement for the tube rectifier already in the amp and a 25k pot for the mids, both en route and should receive them this week. If you're THAT CLOSE to what you want, tweaking (IMHO) is the way to go.
