Modify Neck Heel On My Les Paul....

Could I modify the neck heel on my Epi LP to look like this:

This looks like it could considerably improve fret access, so it seems like a great option!

However, by carving the heel of my LP, would it seriously harm the structure of the guitar, and create a weak neck joint, or even simply kill some sustain? Would you recommend it?

Here is my Epi:

My first reaction is always to say "drop the file and step away from that guitar" in my best policemans voice.

Im not sure how long the tenon is in the Epis and you might do some serious damage to the stability of the neck, as well as making the guitar butt ugly and unsellable in the future.

But that is just me, some guys are more adventurous.

You can't. I know a custom guitar maker that makes Les paul style guitars. They can do that type of heel, BUT they have to also make a huge neck tenon and joing to compensate for weakness. It is is impossible to have that heel with the standard Gibson/Epiphone neck tenon, the joint will be incredibly weakened
