Mods and PUP Setup suggestions!

Hello Pup Gurus!,

I have a Epiphone SG G-310 that's a little bit of a junker, but I was thinking of turning it into a diverse guitar I can use traveling around and not worrying about dings and scratches.

I have a couple Pups sitting around, Dimarzo 151 PAF, Seymour Duncan Custom 5 and Custom Custom, and then a Shoreline Jersey Devil. All have four leads. I was thinking of eliminating the dual controls on the SG, and using a single volume and tone. That leaves the existing two holes for buttons or switches. I was thinking of adding a killswitch or switch to create a parallel circuit or both. Or maybe going Van Halen with just a tone put. Haha

Do you guys have any suggestions to extend the flexibility of my guitar with the current Pups I own?

Put in the Custom 5 and the Dimarzio, take out the bottom vol/tone pots and add two switches, one for splitting, and one for a 15dB boost, like a 2015 Gibson.

Use Triple Shot mounting rings with this ^^

I thought about this, but with the 310's pick guard I would have to drill new holes in really thin cheap plastic to install rings.

Put the Custom 5 in the bridge. Add a killswitch in one hole, and the other use a switch which will split both humbuckers.

Yes, but you could attach the Triple Shot rings to the pick guard using machine screws and nuts. Definitely don't want to use wood screws. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box before giving up on an idea.

That's all obvious, but again, the reason I dropped that idea was because how thin the SG G310 guard is, and how much of a pain it is to find a replacement if it does crack during drilling. It's probably one of the hardest to find pick guards of any modern era SG.

Have you ever drilled into a pickguard before?! Even a "thin" SG G310 guard? It's a very soft plastic. It will not crack during drilling unless you really don't have a clue what you're doing. And a washer on the underside of the guard will distribute any potential uneven forces applied by the nut to prevent any cracks from starting. "That's all obvious" too, I suppose.

Besides, if what you said is really how you feel about the use of this guitar...

then what in the world is your objection? Even if you do happen to get a scratch or ding or crack in the pickguard?

But if all of this is beyond your understanding or abilities, perhaps you should just scrap the whole idea, get rid of your precious G310 (or should I say...your knock-around cheap dingable and scratchable G310, but very precious pickguard), and get a different guitar?!
