Mods do not add value to a guitar.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

Doesn't work for refrets or finish mods/repairs.

That is a good point...I would consider that more of a maintenance (and personal preference if you changed size/material) thing than a mod.

I buy guitars that don't require the mods yours do. Lolololololol.
That's nice. I'm so happy for you. Maybe if I could find a stock instrument that came with the exact features that I want, then I would too. That is if I didn't have to pay another grand for $300 worth of parts that I could install myself in a few hours.

The only guitar I can honestly say came the way I wanted was a USA Fender Deluxe Strat that I was a complete mo' for getting rid of (came loaded with Fat 50s and had a stronger Bridge pickup than the Fat 50s I have in my Strat now.) Even my Wayne (bought used so not technically new) has only one pickup in it and while that JB rocks I would have preferred it to have a neck pickup.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

Save the stock parts, put them back in when you sell it. That way you can keep the expensive mods for your next guitar or simply sell them seperately as upgrade parts...

I'm sorry you need all these things just to play.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

I don't "need" them. I could play on the equivalent of a cardboard box strung with rubber bands. I just don't want to.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

I just play Warmoths now. No mods needed, I get it the way I want it from the start. I remember but do not miss the days of modding guitars. The only guitar I never modded that wasn't a Warmoth was a Gibson Les Paul I once had. It was great the way it was.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

These are the kinds of mods that don't add value to a guitar for me. Wear and tear used to devalue a guitar. This has wear in places a normal strat would never get worn down. But it's got a shiny new Floyd and jack. Doesn't look natural at all.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

When I mod a guitar, it adds value to me. However, I don't mistake that for adding resale value. Then again, I never do anything mods, or even buy guitars with resale value in mind. The one time I did that, the guitar turned out to be a Keeper.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

Only guitar I haven't modded is a Jackson Jazz'R. And that's only because I can't get the pickups out of the routes. Those babies are wedged in there tight. If they ever come out, it'll probably get P-Rails.

I have not yet found a stock guitar that does everything I want one guitar to do. No one makes such a guitar. Therefore, I mod.

.

Have you tried nothing and are all out of ideas? Im sure they could come out with just a bit of work. Silly Dr nukem

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

Reversible mods shouldn't really devalue a guitar, permanent ones would though since they would have been done for personal needs only that others may not require.

Now having said that, if a guitar was available with the kinda of features i need the most functionally & only needed upgraded hardware in minimal amounts to sound right to me then i would buy that instead of something cheaper & mod it all to specs myself and use up a lot my time in doing it.

I stopped just short of vise-grips, as I'd rather not chew up the pickup covers, or rip chunks out of the wood when they finally break loose. The saddest part is the height cannot be adjusted, either, so if I wanted to tweak that, I'm screwed. Fortunately they sound great where they are.

Re: Mods do not add value to a guitar.

Pretty much agree with the majority here. why would I pay extra for an epiphone with emgs and a floyd when that's not my thing? Someone might, but to me it has devalued it rather than added value.

ya think the paint may have still been tacky when the pickups were installed and just glued them in?

Don't like the guitar/mods? Don't buy it!
