Stratoblaster Tone Meister
Did some more tonal experimenting this afternoon on my 66 Fender Pro Reverb amp...Last week I replaced the tone stack caps, over to the new Sozo Blue caps.At that time I had left all of the other coupling caps in my amp Orange Drop 715/716 caps...
Today I pulled the Orange Drops out and went with the Mojo Dijon yellow caps of the exact same values...Realizing there's some component tolerences to consider because of the different caps,I love the way the amp sounds even more now...
The amp is definately brighter, but it "seemed" as though the amp has a bit more gain and is a bit tighter(Again could be my imagination)but I trust my ears!
Seems like the amp got a bit woofier in the lows, but that might be because I increased the .01 PI value cap up to a .015...This did seem to increase the lows enough to where I noticed it...
These caps sound really good in the amp....None of the experiments I've done so far with the Sozo,Mallory 150s,Orange Drops, and now the Mojo Dijons, has sounded bad,but I think I do hear some highend jangle difference and the amp is even tighter than it was before..Seems like the note clarity is better also..It's been alot of fun doing this,as I haven't done much amp tweaking in quite awhile..
If you guys have seen these Mojo Dijon caps(The TADS) are the same cap, they are nice caps, nice large size, and I Like the way they made the amp even "livelier" sounding...Maybe it's my imagination, maybe not?
I'm leaving the new blue Sozos in the normal and vibrato channel tone stacks...One of these days I'll try the first version yellow Sozos in place of the Dijons, but probably not! ;o) Once the caps burn in,I see things smoothing out a bit..Played through the amp for over an hour this evening.....Loving it!
