Mojo Dijon Caps In My BF Fender

STRATDELUXER97

Stratoblaster Tone Meister
Did some more tonal experimenting this afternoon on my 66 Fender Pro Reverb amp...Last week I replaced the tone stack caps, over to the new Sozo Blue caps.At that time I had left all of the other coupling caps in my amp Orange Drop 715/716 caps...

Today I pulled the Orange Drops out and went with the Mojo Dijon yellow caps of the exact same values...Realizing there's some component tolerences to consider because of the different caps,I love the way the amp sounds even more now...

The amp is definately brighter, but it "seemed" as though the amp has a bit more gain and is a bit tighter(Again could be my imagination)but I trust my ears!

Seems like the amp got a bit woofier in the lows, but that might be because I increased the .01 PI value cap up to a .015...This did seem to increase the lows enough to where I noticed it...

These caps sound really good in the amp....None of the experiments I've done so far with the Sozo,Mallory 150s,Orange Drops, and now the Mojo Dijons, has sounded bad,but I think I do hear some highend jangle difference and the amp is even tighter than it was before..Seems like the note clarity is better also..It's been alot of fun doing this,as I haven't done much amp tweaking in quite awhile..

If you guys have seen these Mojo Dijon caps(The TADS) are the same cap, they are nice caps, nice large size, and I Like the way they made the amp even "livelier" sounding...Maybe it's my imagination, maybe not?

I'm leaving the new blue Sozos in the normal and vibrato channel tone stacks...One of these days I'll try the first version yellow Sozos in place of the Dijons, but probably not! ;o) Once the caps burn in,I see things smoothing out a bit..Played through the amp for over an hour this evening.....Loving it!

Upon my internet searching I thought it was cool that Reeve's amps is using these caps in his Jimmy Page amp...The Hiwatt/Reeves wiring has always been a work of art to look at..

Ok guys I goofed! LOL

Went back into my Pro Reverb today to do some FBI work and to check on the brightness factor I mentioned...Turns out that one of the coupling caps that was supposed to be .022,I mistakenly stuck a .002 there instead....Stupid mistake, but I caught it while going through the schematic and the values inside the amp...The caps need to burn in and smooth out,but the amp really has some nice tone...

Re: Mojo Dijon Caps In My BF Fender

That is some beautiful looking wiring there. Makes building an amp look simple, where I know making it look like that is indeed an art.

The first time I ever got to see the inside of an early Hiwatt, totally blew me away! Doug Hoffman's amps were tidy and it was easy to tell that Doug was bit by the Hiwatt bug also...He built some cool amps, but they just didn't take off for him! ;o( Probably worked out better that he does what he does now and doesn't build amps.

The Blue Sozos are working out pretty well in a tweed Pro...

Re: Mojo Dijon Caps In My BF Fender

Jury's out on the Blues in the Bandmaster; got other issues there from loading between the .022 and stock BF tone stacks. But they nice and warm (but clear) in the tweed...along with a new (to me) mid-70's Celestion 15" I put in it, I think this is the nicest tone I've had from the amp in awhile. Tweaked the bright cap and it goes from fat mid 50's tweed almost into brown Pro territory. Using it tomorrow for some recording; we'll see how that goes...
