Monster Cable

Re: Monster Cable

My buddy bought 2-3 of those Monster "Rock" cables...not really any difference in tone that I could hear. Good looking cables though, didn't know about all that lawsuit stuff so that just kills Monster for me. I don't think I could ever throw 50 bucks down on a cable anyway. I think 20-30 would be the most I would spend. I've been eyeing those Mogami cables though they seem like they'd be worth the money...any opinions?

Re: Monster Cable

I have a bunch of Monster, Planet Wave, Dimarzio and George L cables. I think George L are the best. A lot of people don't understand George L are a different animal. Once you own the ends ($5/each) you spend 80 cents per foot for the cable. A 20' cable for $16?? That is LESS than some crap brands and way, way less than the Monster stuff. The whole George L concept is just genius IMO. For gigging I prefer a more bulky cord just so it doesn't get all tangled up.

The Planet Wave's seem to break the quickest but I return them to GC and walk out with a brand new cord every time. My cords usually die when I roll over them with the chair in my studio.

Mogami makes all kinds of cable and none of it sucks. About 1/2 of my mix suite is wired with foil sheild Mogami...great stuff, really easy to work with and it's decent sounding wire. Canare makes great cable too...some of the Beldon stuff is decent but some of it isn't that great. Not that it sounds bad but it's hard to work with and kinks & tangles pretty easily.

Re: Monster Cable

I'm in the group of a failed Monster Cable. It's still sitting in a box in my closet where it's been for close to 5 years. I like Spectraflex a lot. I own 3 and neither one has given me a problem. I have Horizon cables that are 10 years old and have never given me problems. The Monster thing is all hype. In my FX loop I use the cheap 3 foot Radio Shack cables. The pedals are always on and sit behind the amp so what the heck. I use the Spetraflex from my guitar to the amp though.

Re: Monster Cable

I use George L cables. I bought them mainly to wire my pedalboard, and the idea the IF they break I can fix it within a minute or so and be playing again. I don't think I can hear much of a difference in the overall sound quality, but I will say they are considerably quieter than any other cable I have used. I immediately noticed all residual noise that was present was now gone. The other guitar player and Bass player thet I play with have a lot more interference thru there gear than I do. I don't feel the price is that bad either. I paid $24.00 for a 15 foot cable pre made. The ones that I made from buying the componants worked out to be about $20. for the same length. The concept of having to repair a cable on the fly is kind of crazy. Anybody perfroming live has got to have at least 2 spare cables in the event one breaks...... regardless of what kind of cable you choose to use.
