Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

All of the guitars that I have are really comfortable but I have to say that the Strat and the ES-339 are more comfortable than the LP.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

I wear my guitar strap sitting and standing.

Because of this, none of my guitars feel akward when playing.

It's also nice not having to balance a guitar with my knee and fretting hand.
Less hinderence when playing.

Full hollowbody for me. My main guitar was an es 175 for about 15 years. When I was working on my Master's in Jazz Studies I fell asleep many times with my head on my hand resting on the upper bout.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

I play my les paul like 90% of the time. The other day I was realizing really how annoying it is to play sitting down. Not sure if it is where the cut out is relative to the weight balance but strat style guitars are so much more comfortable to play sitting down. Anyone else?

I know exactly what you mean and when you have gained weight like I have, it makes playing a LP sitting down all the worse.

I have said this a million times before on the forum, but a Telecaster is the most comfortable sitting down guitar there is.

Many of you said Stratocaster. Try the DLT challenge. You'll see the Telecaster sits higher in the lap, thus putting the forearm in a tad more comfortable position.

Either of my Steinbergers, really. They weigh maybe 6lbs, the weight is on my strap, not my leg, and the main weight of the body is the bridge, not the (nonexistent) headstock, so it balances perfectly.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

Strats win in any position. Say what you will about the sound (Blueman), but damn they feel nice.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

I gotta say, the Klein was the best, most ergonomic I have ever played. You could balance it on your leg and take your hands off, and it would sit there, perfectly balanced. The $5k price tag on the one I tried prevented me from taking it home though.

Strats, or this (designed by me, built mostly by a friend with some input from myself) ......

Actually that's exactly one of the reasons (besides the lack of tummy cut, forearm contour and tendency of the weight of the body to make it "dive" the opposite way of a SG) why a lot of people don't like Les Pauls sitting down. The waists of the body are deeper and the guitar sits lower.

If you're moving from a Strat to a Paul, another thing is that the TOM setup sits very differently compared to the Fender, and because of that the neck angle is different as well.

I'm going to have to go Strat, but Ibanez Joe Satriani models are very comfortable to play. Definitely something in the vein of a Strat.

PRS Custom bodies don't sit all that well with me.

But to be honest, when I say something doesn't sit well with me doesn't mean I can't play it. I still find PRS, LPs, SGs, etc comfortable and playable, I'm just measuring them up against a Strat.

+1. For me it's an SG. The body's thin enough to never get in the way, and it's contoured to fit naturally.

BTW, one of the reasons the Strat was developed was all the complaints about Teles being bulky & uncomfortable. I agree that Strats have a nicely contoured body shape (if only they didn't have...).

I think someone might just get a short scale, set neck, mahog/maple/rosewood, PAF equipped Strat sometime soon...which means we're making progress :D.
